I have been working at Berkadia full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Love my coworkers! We've done well at hiring amiable and talented people. What's great about our growth is that we've brought in more like minded individuals to help influence a culture change. It's slow going, but we are breaking away from a deeply rooted traditional corporate mentality. There is movement to make developers more comfortable, such as a snack wall and team activities twice a month. We have the...

    Cons

The hiring and interview process paint a picture of what the company wants to be, but Berkadia has a long way to go before we get there. Here are some things I wish I had known when deciding whether or not to accept a position at Berkadia: 1. Growing pains and cultural conflict Berkadia is trying to transition into a tech company but a complex organizational structure and politics are making for a slow transition....

    Advice to Management

Layers of middle management are hiding the true state of the business from you. Get involved with the teams and listen to their suggestions and concerns. Pay off the tech debt. Consider Gall's law. Optimize for team autonomy. You hired talented individuals, trust and empower them to do their work. Remove the processes and impediments that are encumbering and preventing them from delivering value to users and the...

I worked at Berkadia full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Berkadia is beginning to build a lot of brand new tech, and it is very exciting to be a part of. Because of the growth that they are experiencing in the technology product division of the company, there are a lot of opportunities to move up and take on new challenges and responsibilities. I have never worked for a company that has actually practiced the values that they preach as Berkadia does. The executive team invests...

    Cons

Because of the massive and very quick growth of the technology side of the company, there are some growing pains. There is an influx of a lot of new talent and ideas coming in and there are always decisions to be made on the direction of products. There are many disagreements that occur. It is very hard to develop new products especially in the beginning stages that Berkadia is in, but it is also very rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest time and energy into developing a good culture.

I worked at Berkadia full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent pay, benefits are okay but for a large company you would expect better

    Cons

Houston office notorious for negative work environment and demanding and difficult management. No HR on site to assist. I think other companies are fine but there is little work/life balance

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge the contributions your team makes instead of demeaning when mistakes happen.

I worked at Berkadia full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people in the Sandy office are stellar individuals who are making the best of a terrible situation, I truly feel sorry for them and wish them the best. The actual market opportunities they are pursuing are real and awesome.

    Cons

Everything said in the Sep 5, 2018 review and the Aug 30, 2018 review is true, though I would chide those two for a less than professional tone, I too witnessed everything they described and the lump some of it all is what makes Berkadia a terrible place to work. In addition to what they said I would add watch out for the signing bonus, the company will actually sue you for that money if you leave before a year. Ask...

    Advice to Management

We can tell you don't know what you're doing. Pay close attention to the details of the day to day and the individual, you’re not doing that at all. Stop only listening to the chain of command - they are the problem. Almost everyone from mid management up to the top is inexperienced and so there is no focus and no clarity because no one knows any better or really knows what to do but they all have strong opinions with...

I have been working at Berkadia full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of your teammates will be excellent to work with. A handful of helpful managers may provide guidance and help you navigate the twisted, complex politics of a textbook corporate company that swears it's an agile startup.

    Cons

Buzzwords and lofty hopes and dreams will fill your interview, but none of them will ever be realized or acted upon. Berkadia is not for you if: - you're a true UX or design professional - you're looking for a design-driven company that embraces UX from the top down - you believe in a developer-driven design methodology with no real interest in adopting UX best practices - you're a developer who likes autonomy or...

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. Support your talented employees. Stop the finger-pointing and immature reactions to real problems that lead to your best talent leaving you. Act directly instead of punishing everyone for a single outlier's problems. Listen to your employees' ideas, concerns, and issues and actually do something about them instead of letting them play out on their own. Do a better job vetting programmers for...

    I worked at Berkadia full-time

    Pros

Certain individuals made work tolerable Good benefits and PTO

    Cons

When I started working here, Berkadia was a great place to work. When I left, it grew to be the worst place I have ever worked. The company grew very fast and hired several toxic individuals. These individuals built out the rest of the teams and managed to create an extremely toxic CULTURE. There are individuals and management that blatantly disrespected me and my team. I have never experienced such unprofessional people...

    Advice to Management

Stop saying corny "inspiring" words and trying to toot your own horn. Focus on actually getting things done and supporting your people. The entire management needs to be fired tbh.
