I worked at Berkeley College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

CIO and VP are leaders, they set the tone of the department. You will have access to the latest technology: software and hardware. Great coworkers, management is approachable and supportive, plenty of training opportunities. Goal oriented, fast paced, productive and encouraging environment. If problems arise they are solved on the spot, just speak up.

    Cons

IS department is small once in awhile you will have a lot of stuff on your plate. Learn time management skills and communicate proactively with stakeholders.

    Advice to Management

    Incorporate Mentorship program into onboarding.

I worked at Berkeley College part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The students, staff, and majority of the faculty are the best thing the institution has going for it.

    Cons

The faculty is worked to death. There's too much stress and anxiety. It's not a healthy place to work. The full time faculty is run ragged and it never lets up.

    Advice to Management

The school has put everything in place to support the students - Academic Success Centers, great libraries, supportive faculty, advisors -- yet we get blamed when the students don't do that they should or under perform. Yea, there are some faculty who, truthfully, need to go, but overall, stop blaming the faculty. Start looking at the students.

    Pros

Established institution in higher education; financially stable; great leadership team; cutting edge online program; great benefits and opportunities to grow and learn

    Cons

Family owned and parochial interest and mindset; small business school; fair customer satisfaction rating and average return on investment

    Advice to Management

Focus on primary mission and strengths of organization; establish clear brand point of difference and create center of excellence in core business areas. Outsource areas that are not essential to business success such as security, HRs, enrollment services-- centralize operations.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Berkeley College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Students are enthusiastic and, for the most part, want to learn. A small number of faculty are outstanding and could work at major universities. The location of the college in Manhatten is excellent. Many International Students give the college significant diversity.

    Cons

The owners and administrators of the school exploit the students. The focus of the President and administration is to get as much money out of a student as possible. Administration treats the academic side of the school as secondary and not as important as the business side. Faculty are overworked and receive low pay. In its current condition the school should not be accredited by Middle States Commission On Higher Education. Classrooms are overcrowded and the technology in all classrooms is generally out of order. The school’s IT systems are of very low quality, and Blackboard, the students connection to courses and resources often go down as students and faculty attempt to accomplish their work. Investments have not been made by the owners of the school in infrastructure, technology or quality of staff or academic life. The faculty of this school need a union.

    Advice to Management

Spaek up and defend students against exploitative behavior on the part of administration.
