I have been working at Berkshire Bank

    Pros

401K is good, bank holidays off.

    Cons

Don't expect any pay increases. You are required to fill out your own review twice a year and if you end up getting a good review you don't get any pay increase. Computer system is out dated and slow and really need to start focusing on customer service and train people a bit more. Nobody seems to know who does what and just pass the buck.

    Advice to Management

If you value good employees , make them want to stay. Turnover is high, people find other jobs making more money. Try taking some suggestions from employees on how things could be changed and work better for the bank and customers.

I have been working at Berkshire Bank for less than a year

    Pros

The company's culture is a lot of fun. There's a focus on employees taking time away from business to play games, decorate the business centers, and socialize.

    Cons

Company is technologically a bit backwards, and some of the procedures haven't been updated in a long time/are no longer relevant. Often times a procedural question can come down to "that sounds good, do that."

    Advice to Management

The procedures need updating, and the computers should really be updated.

I have been working at Berkshire Bank full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Many in Eastern MA have not heard of Berkshire Bank Home Lending, so they don't have any negative impressions like some other banks and lenders. Great products and rates.

    Cons

Way too obsessed with compliance, mediocre communication, non-existent marketing, back office means well but not what you would call a well oiled machine.

    Advice to Management

Don't take your loan officers for granted. Fix the operations side.

I have been working at Berkshire Bank

    Pros

Health benefits, all day training classes, paid time off after 6 months, reasonable bankers hours, higher than average starting pay, lots of customer interaction, full-time

    Cons

Uniform required, cannot negotiate starting rate, must work 2 Saturdays a month which means 2 weeks out of every month you have a to work a 6 day work week and it's still only 40 hours, corporate nonsense, sales goals, it doesn't matter if you're the best at every other aspect of the job, if you can't do sales they don't want you.

    Advice to Management

Change how sales work somehow. Catch up your infrastructure to the size of your corporation, especially since you insist on continuously buying other banks. Stop wasting money on expensive uniforms for employees that make them look like they're on their day off, going food shopping after hitting the gym. Work more with the people who train your new employees once the initial classes are done, because that was a hot... mess.
