I worked at Berntson Porter & Company full-time

      Pros

They buy you dinner during busy season, but all public accounting firms do.

      Cons

      - A partner was discussing a candidate after an interview, didn't want to hire her because she had overheard the candidate talking about meeting her boyfriend on match.com or something during post interview chats with some BP staffers. The partner also mentioned the candidate's makeup making her unqualified. - They did not promote a qualified staffer, just because they knew that the employee was looking to move, and...

I have been working at Berntson Porter & Company full-time

      Pros

      - Close interactions with senior mangers and partners - Work on many different types of tax returns from business to individuals - Free dinner on busy season - Great location (downtown Bellevue)

      Cons

Don't have publicly traded companies as clients but this is just my personal preference

I worked at Berntson Porter & Company full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      - It was a stable, growing company - The President was really working to cultivate a healthy culture

      Cons

      - There was a *huge* divide between chargeable and non-chargeable employees, creating an unhealthy hierarchy - The HR manager at the time (I think they've left) was duplicitous and difficult to work with - A few of the partners should be in anger management

      Advice to Management

Treat your non-chargeable employees with more respect

I have been working at Berntson Porter & Company full-time

      Pros

The management understands that life happens and your family comes first. They're willing to work with you as long as you get your work done at a high quality. I love working here. They're not super 'billable hours focused', they care more about the quality of work.

      Cons

Sometimes communication gets lost between upper management and staff. They're working on it, but it's been a slow process.

          Pros

Great work-life balance when compared to area firms. Knowledge base is sound, with plenty of learning opportunities. Leadership is supportive and encourages personal development and growth.

          Cons

Similar client/industry base that makes some work repetitive. BP is also a single-office firm. Travel is primarily regional.
