    Pros

Quick hiring process. That's about it.

    Cons

No real interview process. A lot of confusion in the office regarding who is doing what.

Staff members were leaving left and right. When asked for your primary contact, you're told he no longer works there.

    Advice to Management

Take a lesson from Kelly Services, Appleone or even Manpower.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You can get this job very easily if you are looking for part time work.

    Cons

Getting 40 hours a week of work outside of the holiday season is nearly impossible and will never work with other employers to allow you to even survive.

Management can do just about anything or say just about anything to employees and even if they report directly to HR managers don't even have to apologize. I had a manager yell at me for not making Best Buy "the kind of money" he was.

There is never a chance for advancement or even recognition for being outstanding. Even if you show promise at what you do there is no one in that company that actually advises you on success within that company (in fact quite the opposite).

I had a manager approach me about "taking" someone else's hours and I realized a phone call later that my friend "had zero hours" on the schedule. My friend never did anything wrong but they literally stripped him of all his hours and gave them to other people. I was so surprised that a company can *NOT* fire you just "stop giving you hours" for no reason.

    Advice to Management

Please realize we are also human beings trying to pay our bills, trying to survive, and we have to learn to get along with each other. We also can't live in a constant state of worry of losing our job or as you people do "get 0.0 hours if we don't meet performance goals". I made Best Buy more money than you even paid me just off of credit card applications and instead of being recognized by Best Buy you consistently cut my hours. I thought performance was a measure of success at that job?

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Always something to do and learn about. Get the opportunity to teach others to grow knowledge on the business as well as how to present value in a product a customer is needing.

    Cons

If you are not kissing up to someone don't expect to get w promotion. Best abut is no longer a company that if you work hard your going to get a chance in achieving higher positions.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about your supervisors when looking to promote someone.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good discount. Cool things to sell and demo.

    Cons

It's retail. Crazy hours. Angry customers. Miscommunication amongst team members and management about sales and installations.

    Advice to Management

    Don't over promise the customer.

    Pros

-Decent pay for entry-level electronic sales without prior experience.
-Management seemed competent and fairly active in-store.
-Many of my fellow coworkers were friendly and approachable
-Not as much selling pressure as you might expect
-Praise is given when needed to motivate employees who are working hard; get the feeling that upward mobility may be better than in other retail environments
-Since the computer section is one of the most profitable areas for the store (if not THE most profitable), the section is given a lot of attention and support from upper-level types: good opportunities for associates in this area to be noticed and possibly rewarded
-Good reputation in the retail world--lots of people want to work for Best Buy
-Fairly good job for college students or as a first retail job

    Cons

-Very few hours for part-timers--get another job if you expect to pay your rent.
-Sales floor was never very organized--took forever to find out where the keys where for the cages when you were trying to close a sale.
-Can get stressful when it's busy and understaffed
-Closing-shift employees usually end up staying an hour or more after closing time
-There will be coworkers who don't seem to do as much but have more hours or whatever. Just focus on what you're doing and learn from the coworkers who are pulling their weight.
-Useless Saturday meetings every month early in the morning for every employee, even stocking.
-Online scheduling site can't be accessed outside of store, so you might have to come in-store just to find out when you're working next
-Personally, would have liked more "tasks;" one coworker found it odd that I wanted to organize the mouse shelf so customers could actually find what they wanted. This is truly a sales position, so if you don't like talking to people and helping them find what they need you will hate this job.

    Advice to Management

Management did pretty well from what I could tell, but I was also in an optimal area in the store (computers). I do remember cashiers complaining more about the work environment--they get paid less, don't move around much, have to push the BB credit card thing, etc. Maybe give other employees besides computers and TV associates more incentives...

Even if you plan on getting rid of them, teach the seasonals how to operate the cash register--this will really expedite things during busy rushes, which is why they were hired in the first place: to expedite things.

And try to give part-timers actual hours so they might be able to pay their rent. The pay rate is there--the hours are not.
