Certain locations have great and helpful managers.
    Higher pay than average.
    Many hours available.
Can switch jobs laterally quickly and easily

I worked at Best Buy (More than a year)

    Pros

    Access to new tech.
Possibly gain some technical knowledge, the company is good on training its employees.
Learn about people skills and how to sell.

    Cons

It's retail so you will meet some bs and some wonderful peoples.
Most likely the store management will give you a revenue goal, how much you need to sell a month in order to stay with the company.
Also, they will defiantly push you to open as many credit cards to customers as you can.

    Pros

The employee discount is really good on certain items that aren't too pricey & even then you might get lucky once in a while.

    Cons

The seasonal people don't get the same treatment as a normal or even part-time employee. No bonuses, no store commission. You're left to pretty much figure things out on your own. They don't even take you through sales training!

    Advice to Management

I would really invest more in your seasonal employees and not treat them as just as a body to fill up space.

    Cons

schedule fluctuated a ton, advancement was difficult ended up having to leave because of availability requirements which were silly.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay was good with no degree.

    Cons

Hours were retail nights and weekends.
Retail work is generally grueling and thankless.
Big box electronics is a dead-end industry and will probably be crushed by the Amazons and Wal-Marts very soon.

    Advice to Management

Bring back your better trained/paid sales associates.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a job that pays your bills. The employee discounts on high-margin products like cables are alright, many times rivaling online prices for similar products.

    Cons

High pressure to sell Geek Squad services and protection plans for devices since this is the easiest way for the company to make a ton of money, thus increasing the managers' bonuses. When managers aren't able to meet these services/protection plan quotas, they get canned. I had four different supervisors in less than a year. You do the math.

A "rec sheet" that needs to be filled out for every customer. It's front and back. Are you kidding me? It's just another B.S. way to squeeze out more money from the customer by selling them garbage that they don't need.

    Advice to Management

Value the people that have a passion for technology and work there. Do not hire idiots that don't know the first thing about a computer (or any other product in their respective department).

I can't count the number of times that a customer has come up to me and said something along the lines of, "Wow, you sure seem to know a lot more than your colleagues!"

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Discount, downtime chatting with other employees, and the discount again. You might make some good friends while working there.

    Cons

Management doesn't really do much until things get bad, then they just complain about arbitrary numbers corporate says needs improvement. Attendance rules (being >5 min late is the same as calling out, do it 4 times in a 6 month period and you're fired).

    Advice to Management

From a long time employee, it seems that the higher up you get in the store, the less you care about your employees and the less work you have to do. This is the fundamental flaw with the in-store management system that corporate has setup, unfortunately I don't see this changing much.
