    Pros

The employee discount is really good on certain items that aren't too pricey & even then you might get lucky once in a while.

    Cons

The seasonal people don't get the same treatment as a normal or even part-time employee. No bonuses, no store commission. You're left to pretty much figure things out on your own. They don't even take you through sales training!

    Advice to Management

I would really invest more in your seasonal employees and not treat them as just as a body to fill up space.

    Pros

fantastic discount fun atmosphere to work in with the right staff and management. provided a good place to learn customer service

    Cons

schedule fluctuated a ton, advancement was difficult ended up having to leave because of availability requirements which were silly.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay was good with no degree.

    Cons

Hours were retail nights and weekends.
Retail work is generally grueling and thankless.
Big box electronics is a dead-end industry and will probably be crushed by the Amazons and Wal-Marts very soon.

    Advice to Management

Bring back your better trained/paid sales associates.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great discount and good people to work with.

    Cons

Management can be passive aggressive, and standards can be fuzzy.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's a job that pays your bills. The employee discounts on high-margin products like cables are alright, many times rivaling online prices for similar products.

    Cons

High pressure to sell Geek Squad services and protection plans for devices since this is the easiest way for the company to make a ton of money, thus increasing the managers' bonuses. When managers aren't able to meet these services/protection plan quotas, they get canned. I had four different supervisors in less than a year. You do the math.

A "rec sheet" that needs to be filled out for every customer. It's front and back. Are you kidding me? It's just another B.S. way to squeeze out more money from the customer by selling them garbage that they don't need.

    Advice to Management

Value the people that have a passion for technology and work there. Do not hire idiots that don't know the first thing about a computer (or any other product in their respective department).

I can't count the number of times that a customer has come up to me and said something along the lines of, "Wow, you sure seem to know a lot more than your colleagues!"

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Discount, downtime chatting with other employees, and the discount again. You might make some good friends while working there.

    Cons

Management doesn't really do much until things get bad, then they just complain about arbitrary numbers corporate says needs improvement. Attendance rules (being >5 min late is the same as calling out, do it 4 times in a 6 month period and you're fired).

    Advice to Management

From a long time employee, it seems that the higher up you get in the store, the less you care about your employees and the less work you have to do. This is the fundamental flaw with the in-store management system that corporate has setup, unfortunately I don't see this changing much.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very fun coworkers! I made quite a lot of long time friends there.

    Cons

    Sell Sell Sell Sell Sell

Even if you're not in a position where you can sell, such as Geek Squad PC repair, you're still pressured to get credit card applications and sell.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to realize they can't compete with Walmart and that physical stores are going out of business.

    Pros

Employees are generally friendly. Managers are clear about work schedules and won't change your schedule for the week without asking.

    Cons

Wages cap out very low. You are completely expendable unless you get to management level. Expectations and methods change all the time as the company chases profit.

    Advice to Management

For the sake of employees, don't higher obvious losers. Bad employees drag down profit and hurt good employees.

    Pros

good discount. pay is ok. good college job and great way to get in door of real world. started as cashier moved up to computer sales. great development program

    Cons

lack of pay raises. managers are usually very self center and no regards for employees. seen plenty of worth employees get dumped over cost cutting moves

    Advice to Management

show more recognition towards employee. constantly reminds us how much potential we can make but never really show as management collect too much bonus and pay for doing little or no work
