I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best Buy hires people who are easy to get along with and who won't bring drama to the work place. Easy, safe and comfortable job if you're fairly tech savvy. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

The pay sucks, but it's retail. If you don't have an amazing degree you must choose money or time. I like having a life and spending time with my family so I picked a job with much lower pay but am happier for it.

    Advice to Management

Give more promotions internally and hire the seasonal people full-time instead of brand new people when full-time positions open up.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Get to work around & learn new technology & have good discounts on some items

    Cons

The company is constantly changing to experiment with new things as they scramble to keep up with online competition like Amazon & Wal-Mart/Sam's Club locally. Their stock is high right now thanks to a few deals with Samsung & Microsoft, but that won't last. Every year, the last several years, they introduced & got rid of positions & changed job titles around. It got to the point where communication was so bad that leaders would tell us to focus on one thing while other leaders would tell you another thing or we would get yelled at for something that wasn't communicated to us. Unfortunately, I was at a location where the top couple managers were constantly negative which created a bad work environment & only socialized with a few of their drinking buddies that worked there or played phone apps with.

    Advice to Management

Communication & be open to new ideas because every store is different & has unique talent.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility with college studies, tuition assistance, and career progession.

    Cons

Tendency for senior leaders to become involved with other associates, i.e. go out for a drink, have part-timers over for late night party, etc. Not professional

    Pros

Decent environment. Good starting pay for a student in a college town. Employee discount is a huge benefit. Non-physical labor.

    Cons

There are many early morning mandatory meetings. Way too many mandatory trainings. No health care options for part-timers. Can be very difficult to get deserved raises.

    Advice to Management

Be good to your senior employees. In a job that can take someone quite a long time to really get the hang of all the policies, paperwork, selling strategies, and other general responsibilities, you cannot afford to lose a few of them at one time.
