I have been working at Best Buy full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

They have values that are people based & they truly live them. The atmosphere is fun & optimistic. They value employee ideas in process decisions. It's all about improving & they want everyone to be apart of the changes.

    Cons

It takes a long time (over a year) to get hired on & it takes a long time to get fired once full time. Some bad apples stay around too long & take up full time positions from harder working temps.

    Advice to Management

Improve the churn, find a way to use temp labor during peaks & hire on the temps that are there longer than 90 days. Use contract workers for small spikes in business only when required & for set time limits.

I worked at Best Buy part-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

There is never a dull moment as the people you meet and atmosphere Best buy creates keep the job interesting. The pay is decent and the hours a flexible so this is great if you are in school for example. The employee discount is great depending on the item!

    Cons

Having to work major holidays. Moving up can sometimes be difficult as there is favoritism between the managers and some employees.

    Advice to Management

Overall, working here was a blast! My one critique, have more respect for your employee's time especially when they are closing the store and waiting to be "walked".

I worked at Best Buy for more than a year

    Pros

High energy from the top down. Positive corporate culture with plenty of opportunity to network and expand your horizons to advance.

    Cons

Not all leadership in middle management is committed to the company values.

    Advice to Management

Senior management needs to keep better tabs on what is happening under each business team. Since the company is so large there is plenty of room for bad managers to hide and negatively impact the working group.

I worked at Best Buy full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

The company has good core values. The most important one of those values, to the retail employee anyway, are "Have Fun While Being the Best" and "Unleash the power of our people" With the right management team in place, the retail stores can actually come through with the "have fun" part. The important aspect of "Unleash the power of our people" is that it means that individuals are expected to be themselves and to...

    Cons

    1. The "quality" of the managers is hot-or-miss with some managers caring about the company beliefs of "Unleash the Power of the People" and >Show respect, humility and integrity" Other managers don't lead the retail teams, they push them. 2. If you've been in any Best Buy store anywhere, you've probably heard more than one employee say "Don't worry, we don't work on commission." While that's true for the sales associates,...

    Advice to Management

When I started at Best Buy in 2005, the store management team worked together under the guidance of a GM that had very specific rules. The store was cleaned to perfection with exception every night and was kept that way during the day. The employees were generally happy to work there because the managers led their people through caring and motivation. We normally always "made the numbers". A few years later, the GM...

I have been working at Best Buy full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

There are a lot of great things going on in the IT space at Best Buy, great challenges that come with a lot of rewards. Pay is competitive, and company future is looking good with the current strategy in place by new leadership.

    Cons

Misalignment between dotcom and enterprise IT teams can cause delays and challenges moving cross-enterprise efforts forward.
