I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Best Buy was one of the best places for me to start my professional career. They teach you values that you will not only be able to use at work, but values that can be applied to everyday life.

    Cons

Sometimes trying to "have fun" while being the best is not a possibility. Best Buy has at times been very pushy about hitting numbers and goals.

    Advice to Management

The best thing I learned while working for this company was "if you want something done, do it yourself". I find that Best Buy has a bad habit of hiring unqualified people as managers and supervisors.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay, solid benefits, lots of training opportunities

    Cons

Working nights, weekends, and just a about every holiday. GMs that only seem to average 30 hours/week and think they know what's going on in the store. Not a very professional atmosphere with mostly young employees. 3rd party delivery teams and installers have tons of issues.

    Advice to Management

Fix the fulfilment & delivery/install issues in appliances and you could rule the market in that category.

You meet a lot of great people working at the store and make lifetime friends.
You can move up quickly if that is your goal.

    Cons

    It's retail.
If you dont plan on moving up, you will get typical $.25 raises.

    Pros

Discounts, accommodations, easy work and school balance.

    Cons

Retail hours, no union, no set hours, hourly pay, no thanksgiving, holiday work requirements, managers can take or give as many hours as they please.

    Advice to Management

No one enjoys a job where everything can go up or down in one day.

I have been working at Best Buy (More than a year)

    Pros

If you're willing to attack your sales goals even though you make no commision there is potential for a number of raises and promotions.

    Cons

Part timers don't get much in the way of promotions or pay increases which sucks when you don't make commission.

Seems like they want you to make working at Best Buy a career move which is okay for some i'm sure but many wont appreciate the pressure to sell for no commision.

    Advice to Management

They preach that their sales associates don't make commission but I don't think it makes your customers trust you anymore than anyone else. Most people assume you make commision anyway and even if they know you don't they still don't trust retail salesmen. If you're going to push your employees to upsell then they need to be compensated better. I believe this is why the verizon sections etc have now started paying commision to their best buy affiliates.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, good pay for student, and friendly environment.

    Cons

Pressure during holidays to sell, management might not care about finals schedule.

    Advice to Management

Don't blame slump sales on employees when the traffic coming into the store is obviously really low.
