    Pros

Compared to the world of retail jobs, Best Buy tries to hide this and make it seem like a job of much higher status. This presentation that Best Buy displays to new employees empowers you to work in a more respectable manner rather than you thinking that you have a lesser-status job.
Next, they do not throw you into the battlefield immediately, they make all employees work one month without the blue shirt in order to be trained on and off the store floor.
You don't have to know a whole lot about technology to get a job at Best Buy, overtime you are trained to learn about the products that are sold and how they benefit the customer's needs.
The discount is unrivaled to any electronics and\or department store. I can't provide the details on it due to confidential issues, but it is generous.

    Cons

Once you are fully trained, you are expected to make sales like a machine. Getting management to notice your great sales is overshadowed by any time you don't perform as well. If we we're commission based in some way, it would truely make efforts to sell products more worth it. You also have to constantly track your sales on a sheet, which gets very tedious and actually hinders you from making more sales. Most of the time it doesn't even seem like management has time to look at those sales tracking sheets anyway.
Overall though, if you plan to work retail, Best Buy still shines over your other options.

    Advice to Management

Continue to empower employees to do their jobs, and do give more recognition. If some employees don't have much to be recognized, start focusing on them and see where they can go. Try to recognize as many employees as possible, even for smaller sales.

I worked at Best Buy (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent company. Good benefits. CEO is out spoken about current events. They have an Employee Assistance program.

    Cons

Trainings are all online. Majority of leadership at store level are corrupt. HR department is unresponsive. No one makes sure you’re being developed. If the gm isn’t doing it, your out of luck.

    Pros

associate discount and the ability to have access to the latest technology was the best thing about this job. Lots of locations for possible relocations

    Cons

changing company plans for departments and managers. 60 hour work weeks including most holidays. shifting expectations with the seasons. Much of the talent gets cannabilized by other higher paying retail companies.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Honestly the discount is about it. Especially if you are buying the best brand items such as insignia, tech 21.

    Cons

Each best but is completely different. There is no consistency whatsoever. Done Best Buy's allow there mobile department to close early while others cannot.

    Advice to Management

    Consistency is major key

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great first job. Employee training was a valuable experience, I've applied the customer service skills I learned there in most future jobs. Overall pleasant environment to work in. Management is very reliable, and operations and procedures are smooth.

    Cons

Hard to get feedback for operations addressed, as it is in any large company. Likely because management cannot do much about it, considering how high operations decisions go.

    Advice to Management

Try to dispel the opinion that Best Buy markups are huge. The markups are too big on some odd items, like cables, but are no more than most online retailers everywhere else.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discount on items is great! Working with some great people that are dedicated to their jobs. Have the ability to bring in different product

    Cons

Never ever having a weekend or holiday off plus do not get an additional days off when you do work that holiday. Worked in the new mobile store and found it creepy that the boss would watch us all weekend to see what we were doing. Thanksgiving day was required to work a 20 hour day then 6 days and 65+ hours a week. Sales goals extremely high for being right across from the big Best Buy, so bonus was small. Never had enough stock when new phones came out, especially apple

    Advice to Management

People need a work life balance!! Work on stock levels better for the Mobile stores to much garbage not enough of the stuff we sell.

    Pros

    good pay
    good discounts
    good benefits
    knowledgeable coaching
    alot of possibilities for advancement

    Cons

    long hours
they watch your numbers like what you sell alot
they make you keep track of your numbers
they try to drive a commission based approach to selling without giving you any real incentive to selling (meaning they are pushy about you getting your numbers up, but if you sell more or better you still get paid the same)

    Advice to Management

if you are knowledgeable about the products and services of bestbuy drive every associate to be as knowledgeable as you

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Company likes to promote within.
    Team mentality
    Good discount
A lot of vendor discounts including freebies (ex. Sony, Dyson, LG, etc.)
Depending on location - fun place to work
Depending on location**** - Very supportive management

    Cons

Work loooooong holiday hours (expected in retail, but still very long days. +40 hours some weeks)
    A lot of politics
    At times... unrealistic sales expectations

  10. "Great Discounts, Not so fun during the holidays"

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great discounts on things like wires and and headphones that are the generic things.

    Cons

Depending on how the store is laid out no one will ever go back to your section only if they want the newest things. Want an iPod? Get it from the front registers. Want the Batman special edition? Get it at the front. You never go home on time, especially when closing. Heaven forbid you leave your area.

    Advice to Management

Don't threaten people with their jobs if they cannot make credit card or warranty sales.
