I worked at Best Buy (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Showed videos and trained you well prior to selling
    - Discount is 5% above wholesale pricing
    - geek squad protection is dirt cheap
    - Easy to move around positions in the store

    Cons

    - The management title went to some of my managers heads (got to bossy)
    - I was top salesmen of the month and they gave me a 10$ gift card for selling $80k worth of goods

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great discount on accessories. Especially if the company is owned by Best Buy like Rocket Fish or Insignia.

    Fun team environment

    Cons

Far too many acronyms for their own good.

They send you on a training weekend when you've been hired part time or full time, basically the majority of the training is teaching you all the damn acronyms. There's some bits of actually learning to sell, but not really enough to warrant the exercise useful or cost effective.

You have to carry around a clipboard and paperwork so you can write down everything customers want in their computer. Ultimately you're supposed to hand this paperwork to the customer supposing they leave with out buying. I felt it was a major waste of energy and in most cases customers just hucked it in the trash on the way out.

    Advice to Management

Just let sales people sell the product, it's okay to expect them to upsell warranties and the sort. But don't bog them down with other unnecessary things.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work atmosphere, the company culture, and the employee discount are all amazing, but best of all we're told to make sure to put our customers first, not revenue goals.

    Cons

Our employee discount doesn't do much on certain big-ticket items

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what youre doing!

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits to both part timers and full timers. Lots of training opportunities, plus career focused opportunities! Competitive achievements!

    Cons

Management was poor acting, communication is a huge problem at my location. Lots of training, expect your first two months of nothing but training. Huge push for both services and credit cards, as well as high revenue goals.

Computers tend to be the highest in the store, expected revenues per hour ranging between $800-1300 depending on season(graduation, back to school, holiday).

Kinda unfair competition. At bestbuy they have two huge events per year for top performing individuals, and unless you're either in connected home(their rev per hour is significantly lower), part time, or in a high volume store, you'll never see it yourself. It's cool to know about these big events, but you really have to strive to make a spot.

    Advice to Management

Store managers: Communicate more with associates, leaders, and other managers.

    Pros

Discount on most goods including electronics

    Cons

Job can be treated like a commission job by your supervisors, when that's not how you are paid.
