I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They treat you as if you have a brain in your head, and you are able to learn much about the current trends in technology.

    Cons

Less flexible schedules than other job markets such as food service, however there is an assumed degree of responsibility and maturity in this field.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your employees. Get them thinking, and asking questions. Be there for them, and let them know that you are, without being overbearing.

    Pros

Birds eye view of the store. Have a true opportunity to see how the business runs.

    Cons

No true advancement through in store asset protection.

    Advice to Management

Respect the AP, they are the 1st and last contact with your customers. Give them knowledge to make everyone's job easier.

    Pros

Great managers and training programs. they will train you to be able and sell even if you didn't have experience. I applaud them for investing so much in employees.

    Cons

Holiday hours are generally long. also people tend to create small clicks between every one but over all good company

    Advice to Management

make sure the clicks around the store don't get too big because they begin to show favoritism. Maybe more employee engagement events

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Employee Discounts, Fun atmosphere, decent pay

    Cons

The store location really changes the outcome of how your store is handled. A smaller store could have a manager that is really big on micromanaging and expecting to hit monthly budgets even on slow nights. You can either work at a store and expect great things, or work at a small store and get talked down.

    Advice to Management

Each store should consistently have the same kind of training done in store besides just e-learnings. The store I worked for did not seem to proporly train many people. I know management at other stores was a lot more efficient and has greatly helped associates do their jobs more effectively.

I worked at Best Buy part-time

    Pros

Customers are friendly for the most part and empathetic.

    Cons

Micromanagement. It does not matter what the store manager tells you or does themselves. The department managers run the show and hold employees accountable to different standards. I got griped out for taking a product out of a case and waiting with a customer while they decided if they wanted the item. The store manager did the same thing and it was OK when he did it. I also got chastised for leaving my zone simply to throw trash away that was in my zone and trying to keep my work area neat. There are a lot of training modules to learn in a very short time when you begin the position. Be prepared. The training modules I had to view went back a couple of years in time. The mid-managers expect you to get through them in two days. Managers tell you they will provide food during holidays you work. This is true. What they do not tell you is the food is either homemade or cheap, cold pizza from Cici's. The absolute cheapest you can find anywhere in town. There is no communication on break schedules. You will work Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Good luck.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the department managers. Stop holding seasonal store employees to standards that store managers are not held to.
