I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Employee discount
-Flexibility in shifts if going to school
-Great management, very friendly and easy to talk to
    -Competitive pay
-Lots of opportunities to work during the holidays
-Can branch out into other departments and have a shift scheduled for you to train in whichever department you were interested in maybe transferring to

    Cons

-Holidays can get a little crazy, worked many close to open shifts that would end around 3am and start around 7-8am during holidays, though this never happens when in the "off-season"

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy to get promoted, pay is above minimum wage for entry level, potential to receive monthly bonuses, employee discount

    Cons

What use to be nice about Best Buy is they seemed to be great company who cared about their employees and thoughts. For a moment, I even considered Best Buy a career, until the past couple months. Our store switched to a new business method called "One Direction" where all sales associates can sell in all areas of the store. The business method was mainly to save labor and departments are now much less staffed, especially around critical times. With the 1D switch, employees now have a ridiculous hourly revenue goal that is impossible to obtain, especially with the very difficult lack of traffic. Management is now getting very rough on every employee and yelling at us for not obtaining these accentuated rev goals. Each month, they have a "meeting" now coaching us to become better, but instead yell at us, and make us feel really bad about not hitting these goals. In the near future, employees will now get written up for not obtaining these goals, and eventually fired. Management is very rough on the One Direction employees.

    Advice to Management

    Take it easy.

    Pros

Staff is great, work well with student schedules, hours are pretty consistent, part time and full time employees are eligible for raises.

    Cons

You work holidays, but that's expected in retail.

    Pros

Worked here two years in every department from sales to Geek Squad to phone ops. Great management team and coworkers. Also I count the admin so I make great pay

    Cons

Sometimes I work 40+ a week. It sucks. Was even worse when I was part time and working full time hours.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The best thing was the fact that they were always working on making you better in the sales aspect. Always training you to be better. The discount was super nice too.

    Cons

After I was there for a few years you could see the favoritism more and more. You could see the unfair treatment of the way they decided promotions and stopped hiring within. I lost out on a pretty large pay increase because my General Manager was being canned and wanted to make sure the whole team suffered when he decided reviews.

    Advice to Management

The employees who work hard should not get ignored. More recognition. I gave up a 5 year tenure because I was tired of the politics at a job that for the first 3 years I loved!

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best Buy has a great employee discount. Flexible hours.

    Cons

The pay is not equal, you can work your tail off all year and they expect you to be happy with a 50 cent raise. New employees make better pay than the old, if you want a raise you might as well quit and come back. The managers will gave you the run around about that situation too. Don't expect to make this a career either. They bring in leadership positions than take it away after 6 month. Its no growth with this company, no growth between retail and corporate either. This is just a little extra money in your spear time and a nice discount.

    Advice to Management

Don't ask your employees to go above and beyond for you if you cant do that same for them. Keep your personal feelings aside and actually help the employees succeed. Don't ignore them and give them the run around when they ask about the pay.
