I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This company works with your schedule and full time work schedule.

    Cons

The pay rate for my experience is laughable.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, GS makes Best Buy great, ARAs should be paid $30+ an hour

    Pros

Cash Bonus every month based on store performance.
They teach you everything you need to know about the job.
Potential of moving upwards into the company as leadership positions.

    Cons

Warehouse has long hours, especially during the holidays
Management is extremely stressed out during the holidays

    Advice to Management

Advice to Management at my specific store is to keep the department leaders in the loop as to what is happening overall in the store. Use the people that you have to get large projects done especially close to the holidays or when sales end. Don't assume that 2 people can do a 6+ person job.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The only pro is that you will meet new people and gain new product knowledge but if the fast paced environment isn’t for you then it’s a no go. Managers are okay if you get on their good side. Products are amazing though.

    Cons

The workplace is competitive, too many politics within the management and workers, have to dedicate your entire life to Best Buy as if it’s your professional career. The place is not professional one bit, it’s just a part time retail job for extra cash! Trust me, don’t waste your time trying to go up the ladder there. It’s all politics and you will have to suck up to management and downgrade your worth to get to a position that will in end just pay you about $40K a year. Unless your a high school drop out, just stay away. Plus they micromanage and if you can’t handle the burn, you’re going to hate it more.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the micromanagement! Your associates are not your donkeys! They are worth something and they are valuable! Not your donkeys where you get to micromanage them all day! Especially in computing department!

    Pros

Locations all across the country for easy job relocation. Many different positions available. All high school students. No other pros.

    Cons

High turnover rate...bad management with no training...senior citizens who are unreliable no consequences for not showing up for work...bad benefits

    Advice to Management

    Treat employees better

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Bonus potential is pretty good. Once you get above line-level the pay isn't too bad. The discount is pretty appealing to most people.

    Cons

Lots is demanded of you for what you are being paid. The company goes through irrelevant changes so often it will give you a headache.

    Advice to Management

Pay the employees more, or don't expect as much of them. Honestly the cashiers could go to another store and make $4/5 more an hour and have the exact same responsibilities.

    Pros

    Lots of room to grow
    Great people to work with

    Cons

It's a game of politics in the sense of wanting to advance in the company

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

People tend to be pretty laid back.
Leadership is great at department level.
Raises based on quarterly or annual reviews.
    Discount is fantastic.

Some of the people in leadership positions are wonderful and know what they're doing, and they are willing to help you expand your skills. Others, not so much.

Excluding a select few, everyone seems to be very friendly and open here. It does become like a second family since most people, even part timers, seem to be at work more than anywhere else. Which could merit a good or bad thing based on preference.

It seems like a great foot-in-the-door opportunity, giving you a decent amount of knowledge and experience working in a retail position.

    Cons

    Pitiful Life/Work balance.
    Leadership can be somewhat rude.
    Questionable pay and compensation.
Training could definitely be worked upon.
Too pushy with services and credit cards.
    Brutal attendance policy.

It seems that you're supposed to come in the door with the ability to hit a specific number day one, and when you don't, instead of being lead in the right direction it seems that you're shunned and expected to make up for it without being given a different approach or being properly guided.

Having to balance work and school with this job can be nearly impossible if you don't make it abundantly clear what you can do. Even with multiple requests to have hours for a part time position reduced to under 30 weekly, (Average for part time for me has been 35-40, which I find completely obscene considering I don't get compensation for working what I believe is legally full time) I have yet to see it drop to a reasonable number.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexibility in scheduling wasnt bad.

    Cons

Flexibility in scheduling was caused by lack of hours available. Low pay, no benefits.

    Advice to Management

    More consistent hours. Don't over-hire.
