I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dicount. Ht agent hours were tuesday to saturday. 8 to 4 and 12 to 8 on tuesday.

    Cons

You live and die by surveys. Managers would put you in situations where you could get bad surveys. You need 19 good surveys to offset one bad one. Your raise is based off of surveys. So basicaly managers would put you in situations that drastically hurt your ability to get a raise.

If your talented they espcially send you to fix other peoples mistakes. So if the store messed up selling something, or another agent screws up, they send you to fix it. Then your in a situation where the client is upset and no matter what you do, if they fill out the survey poorly if reflects you. So now, on paper, your thr sole person accountable for their ehole experiance. They survey question "would you reccomend bestbuy" has to be 9 out of 10 or you failed. So if 75% of their experiance is poor, and you fix it and do a perfect job, they still may not reccomend bestbuy, or give you an 8. Even if in the comments they state that the store experiance is bad, but you were perfect, it does not matter. And management just tells you that its your job to turn that situation around. Then comes raise time and they tell you the system is automated and because of the negative scores you get 8 cents. Literally happened.

The actual work is great. But the constant cycle of getting berated for fixing problems is just outright defeating.

Some managers have no idea how long jobs take. Had a 7 hr job (on a day that was booked already for 7.5hrs out of 8) shrunk to a 30 miute timeframe to fit. When I asked my manager why my day got 6.5 hrs longer(they really didnt want us to get overtime at the period which was fine. Depending on budget they allow overtime or disallow it. And its elective. Except christmas season is a little different), i was told to make it fit. Then i was yelled at for getting overtime, by the person who assigned it to me...

I wasnt going to write this but they just laid off a large number of agents (who saved me alot with tech support) to outsource. And it just reflects how the company cares less and less about the employees who made it great

Harrisburg in paticular has a GeekSquad management problem. The stores were bad but as of 2015-2016 they had good managers

    Advice to Management

Dont suck at your job then screw your employees.

    Pros

Fun environment and friendly management with lenient duties. Work time went fast with going through the carrier services with the customers. Also all while sitting which was a plus.

    Cons

A lot of standing around time depending on location. Occasional angry people coming in with unrelated issues to Best Buy. No commission tho which was a bummer.

    Advice to Management

Not much to improve on in my location. A new GM was appointed right before i got hired and everything seemed to be running smoothly.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Non commissioned environment, District and Territory staff are involved with the stores. The employee discounts are killer and always ways to grow as an individual through trainings, development events, and mentorship.

    Cons

When your salaried they work you to death. PTO is a little weird in PA and how it works. Being non commissioned is great but also means we are missing out on extra money potential

    Advice to Management

Labor increases would always be great but understand its the easiest aspect to control. Everything else so far has been great and I look forward to many years more here!

    Pros

Great Company, very employee focused and driven. A very well managed company with unlimited career potentials!

    Cons

Pay is a little Lack Luster, but once you are established with the company your pay will reflect it!

    Advice to Management

Don't focus so much on the negative, be more optimistic about the good things that are happening in your locations

    Pros

Good health benefits, 401k match and PTO after 1 year of service
    Free uniforms
    Lots of travel opportunities

    Cons

Absolutely no work/life balance whatsoever. The Project Team will tell you that we work 4 10 hr shifts instead of 5 8hr shifts, but what they don't tell you is that it will never actually be just 10 hr shifts. It is almost always more and they simply don't care how long they make you work. They force you into overtime and into dangerous situations when you are running on very little sleep. This is an overnight positions and it is not uncommon to work 16hrs, sleep 4 hrs and have to go straight back to work again. They also constantly add a 5th night to our jobs. it is common to have to work 50-70hr weeks.
You are on the road almost constantly from March until November. Even when you are posted at a store close to home, the hours make it so that you barely get to see your family. Sometimes they will put you in disgusting hotels that don't have any comforts or conveniences. Other times they will put you in great hotels that feel like home. This totally depends on your leader.
Best Buy doesn't pay very well for Project Team. For what they are expecting out of you, they don't pay you well enough.
They don't set realistic goals for Project Teams and the store staff almost always hate you because they feel like you're messing up their store when you are there for a remodel. The store staff, managers and market staff have a large amount of contempt for the Project Team members.
There is very little upward mobility

    Advice to Management

Treat the Project Team with the respect they deserve. They go through a lot trying to make your vague plans a reality. Just a smile would be great.
Treat the Project Team members better. This isn't the industrial revolution. It's not ok to have a 78 hr work week and a grand total of 20 sleeping hours a week.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The extremely good discount on some items.

    Cons

Some employees are not smarter than a box of rocks, and working at Geek Squad, that frightens me. All they do is run programs, there is not computer knowledge needed to do that job.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your employees tell you and treat them how you expect them to treat you. Working a register for a month without access and constantly needing to ask someone for access is pathetic. (All proper registration procedures were followed)
