I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amble hours for someone who wants them as long as you don't want full time.

A huge surge of customers will allow you to gain a lot of customer service experience.

    Cons

Don't try to go full time, the spots are rarer than management would like to say.

They put up a board in the middle of the break rooms with our names, it ranked the different salesmen. If you were at the bottom of the board, you would be replaced. Created a vicious working environment during the holidays when the focus should have been on customer satisfaction. Instead we were forced to oversell products, leading to longer checkout times and annoyed customers.

    Advice to Management

Don't create a feeding frenzy, its a horrible sales tactics when you apply it to retail.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, good pay, good benefits. I've been with the company for 14 years with several job titles. There is always something new to learn.

    Cons

No complaints. The job I do is very demanding and is stressful with little support from the management. It's basically like running your own business.

    Advice to Management

Add incentives to reduce turnover rate

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Paid time off, tuition reimbursement. They work with your school schedule too.

    Cons

Bonuses are small and hard to achieve, very little room for growth, yearly review gives you a very small pay raise even if you are the top performer in your department

    Advice to Management

Good compensation can be a motivator for performance. Remember that turnover because of pay is a lot more expensive in the long run than giving better pay raises to staff.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employees and management are very kind and fair to deal with. Laid back environment.

    Cons

Low wages. Have found employees who have had less experience start out with much hugher base pay. Raises were anywhere from 28 cents to 50 cents annually.

They don't really provide clear instructions on how to complete a task. Expected to learn from elearnings.

No room for promotion since all management has seemed to work for the company for 15 years. You have to reinterview for a promotion which is ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

Don't rely on an interview as the basis for a promotion. Base it off the work performance.
