    Pros

Being able to teach clients about their products is very rewarding.

    Cons

A lot of the times it turns out I am on the floor selling computers and attempting to attach services (either in-home or in-store).

    Pros

It's easy to change departments if you don't like the one you're in. Good job for students

    Cons

Your pay will more or less stay the same unless you are promoted to leadership or GS

    Advice to Management

Management please make yourself more available when your employees need your help.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You'll learn a lot and meet great people. The employee discount (if it still exists) is worth wasting your paycheck on.

    Cons

You will unfortunately also meet the few customers that have no sole purpose in life except to flap their gums and spit nonsense at anyone they encounter because their $200 eMachine from 2005 won't boot because of the dust and smoke that seized the CPU fan and we need to give them a new one.

    Advice to Management

Management was always good when I worked there (excluding a couple of people). Don't micromanage hard working employees. Take chances with spending more of staffing.

I have been working at Best Buy (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Monthly bonus are nice
    Discounts on products

    Cons

Depending on management this job will either make you a better sales man or make you want to rethink life.
Like any retail job.. Black friday sucks.

    Advice to Management

Dont micro manage the hard working employees to the point were they want to quit.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are usually great. The company genuinely wants you to have fun on a daily basis. Pay is above average for retail, especially as you promote. Incentives such as employee discount, stock purchase program, tuition reimbursement and 401K are all above average.

    Cons

The company has significantly downsized it's leadership team over the years, so there's not much time to coach and train in your specialty department. When things are going well in your district - great, but when they're bad they're bad. I've seen witch hunts to get managers fired, rather than simply holding them accountable to results.

    Advice to Management

Stop cutting leadership roles. There is no time to coach people, so nobody gets better. It really is up to the 18 year old employee to train themselves and that is not okay. As a result, there is no pool of candidates when leadership positions come open.

    Pros

It use to be a good place to work but now they are micro managing everything. see comments below.

    Cons

They took our vans away from us. Make you work weekends. Split days off. No family time now. Started hiring kids to work at a cheaper rate per hour.

    Advice to Management

Go back to having every other weekend off and treat your employees like real people and not a number..

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fun to be surrounded by new tech daily. Hourly employees work hard and have great attitude. Employee discount was always nice.

    Cons

Very poor work life balance and support for salaried leaders. Told by District manager must work 6 or 7 days per week. When I explained was already doing that and it was on the schedule he receives each week was told "i dont have time to look at your schedule just make sure you work 7 days from now on." Poor upper mgmt structure leads to lots of misalignment. A district manager with a market staff that doesnt report to him just leads to much disalignment and conflicting messages. Each market staff leader only focused on their own discipline which often resulted in direction that conflicted with a different market leader and the DM message almost always different than marketstaff message. Led to lots of confusion and frustration with each other. Not a solid work structure for success. Low concern for employees from upper management . DM told me "you care about employees too much, BBY isnt like that anymore" Thats when i knew it was time to move on.

    Advice to Management

Return to focus on employees. Not just through corporate or RVP speeches but the actual actions of the market staff and District managers. D8 was once top district with great tenure however at least half GMs have quit under current DM who is not a people person. Set up a better support system by Market staff and DM alignment. Place upper mgmt leaders that care about employees not self promotion.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time

    Pros

Face to face customer service involving personal computer consulting means there's a patient grind that can be learned from
3 weeks PTO as full-time every year.
    Some holidays are paid.
401k matching up to 50%, up to so much $
    electronics store atmosphere
Best Buy is one of the longest running big box electronics retailers

    Cons

service ticket software for Geek Squad is outdated and the network is seemingly overwhelmed, too often crashing when trying to process customers
Wifi bandwidth in store is understandably slow
Stocks of the company are low
    Mandatory to work some holidays

    Advice to Management

invest in employee's tools, it's the biggest return a business could get on something it already has to pay for; it makes for quicker transactions, happier employees and most importantly, customers.
amazon is Best Buy's Achilles heel, Best Buy needs to respect this
    look for constructive criticism
