I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Investment in the employees with training. Advancement opportunities. Benefits. Providing tools necessary to succeed. Teaching values you can utilize in life and future careers.

    Cons

Depending on each management team, advancement can take a very long time. Line level employee pay isn't that great. Some managers don't love the Best Buy values and it makes the company look bad.

    Advice to Management

Always believe in your associates. Back them up. Be the the store everyone wants to work at.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discounts on certain non premium items. It 5% over the cost. So cables are super cheap to buy. Example $100 monster Hdmi cable with discount $28

    Cons

Hours. Have to work holidays. Your hours and not being set regular. So one week you work this days and other your work other days.

    Advice to Management

Please take care of those who care about the customer and Not the corporate budget goals. Cause at the end is all about the customers. Without them we won't get paid

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Amazing employee discount
Very laid-back atmosphere with cool co-workers
Better than average pay for retail
You can get a good bonus if you work in Mobile and your team hits budget
Some of the managers will train you well and build you into a great Sales Consultant
It is a great first job and will teach you a lot about the basics of sales and business if you take it serious
Fun working with the newest of electronics always

    Cons

The holiday hours are terrible including that you are required to work Thanksgiving and could come in as early 2 in the afternoon
Outside of the holidays however, hours can vary from 15 one week to 30 the next but that happens at all retail jobs
Hard to maintain a good work/life balance at times
Lots of closing responsibilities and things to do outside of just selling and can stay as late as 11:30 at night for closing shifts

The biggest takeaway though from my time at Best Buy is the management. The management can make the job amazing or hell. I have seen managers that are incredibly supportive and if you struggle will help you grow and not cut your hours. Then there are the opposite, the ones that can talk down to you, look at you as replaceable and won't even try to help you and will just cut you down to 5 hours a week and act like you don't exist or get you to quit. My last manager I had was the latter and left me with a bad taste in my mouth, but I gave a good score nonetheless because I can't forget about all the good people I have met too.

    Advice to Management

Hire management more selectively and fire management that doesn't treat their team with respect instead of looking the other way. Also give employees Thanksgiving off, they shouldn't have to miss precious memories with family just to work a $12 an hour job and having to deal with crazy customers instead.
