I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I work as a PM, recently noticed someone commenting that we don't have a PMO department. But I have been with Best Buy for about 7 years and the PMO team has been established with Best Buy before I started.

    Cons

Far too often good and great employees get burnt out because of poor Project Managers who do not have a basic or general idea of what is required as a Project manager, such as communication and knowing what is going on with your project instead of asking other departments who are not involved. As well as a lack of PMs having a basic knowledge of the concept of their project and department.

    Advice to Management

It would be a lot easier to get projects done on time and within budget if there was more care put into vetting PMs and their competency of general and basic PM knowledge as well as subject knowledge of the department they work for. For example having a Marketing Project Manager managing the Technical Project with no back ground or technical knowledge or the desire to learn.

I have been working at Best Buy (More than a year)

    Pros

    • Easy-to-get-into role that preps you for store-level leadership
    • Lead the Home Theater department in the training of other employees on LG products
    • Manage a monthly LG budget, and use business strategies like merchandising, bulk stacking, custom demos, and employee training to hit that budget

    Cons

    • Your livelihood depends on other people helping you sell your product
    • Some Best Buy bureaucracy gets tedious
    • You work most holidays

    Advice to Management

    • Enable your brand Experience Experts to take on leadership responsibilities

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

you will quickly find out that some people you work with are absolute gold but others not so much, the mix is huge

    Cons

constant reshuffling of district managers and changing the way the warrant or geek squad service prices and what is covers becomes very confusing over time.
management constantly lets mediocre performance slide without any actual follow up on the person until they buy them out later on without actually telling the people before how they can fix the issue.

    Advice to Management

you need to pick a plan and stick with it.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Relatively easy work no matter the position.

    Cons

Most leaders will be incompetent and know nothing, usually spend lots of time in the office and know nothing of what happens in the building on a regular basis. Even once you work up to a manager, you can’t even implement your own way of thinking or doing tasks. Extremely poor work life balance. One coworker described it as “the best job when you don’t need a job.”

    Advice to Management

Step out of the offices, be apart of the team that actually does the work.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The team you work with is awesome. Very energetic and enthusiastic. It’s a fast paced work place and a good manager will make it even better. Many positions held at multiple stores. Manager for several years and I absolutely loved it!

    Cons

The schedule can be draining with a family as is all retail. A bad manager can truly ruin the experience.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on the employee. Find out what drives them and motivate them. A happy worker will drive results!
