I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Ability to work from home.
    - "Culture" may make working and pay more appealing.
    - Colleagues are great.
    - Alright 401K and benefits options.
    - Employee discount is almost worth it for some electronics.
    - A lot to be learned through troubleshooting and repairing client devices while working.

    Cons

    - Pay not anywhere near competitive.
    - Hours can range from 36 to mandatory 50 per week.
    - Very little room for advancement as an agent.
    - Certifications and prior education do not factor into pay or any other qualifications.
    - Employees are regularly asked for advice about what they can do to make working for Best Buy a more enjoyable and fulfilling experience. The advice is discussed and then nothing is changed.

    Advice to Management

While "culture" is great and all, attempting to invest in your employees or even acknowledging the bi-annual survey results would be a step in the right direction.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

can be a good place as long as the entire leadership team is focused on the same thing. When the leadership is on a different page, it makes it impossible to correctly do your job.

    Cons

if your not part of the "boys club", you put yourself in a position to fail. Favorites are played and there is way to much politics involved. Your performance should stand for itself.

    Advice to Management

Focus on doing your job. Don't put additional tasks on your managers/supervisors and say its for their development when truly you are wrongfully delegating and adding additional work load. We speak to the iframe and how its important in all aspects to out business however a good portion of the country doesn't follow or truly understand what that's about.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pretty good training, nice discound on products and services, good heath insurance options, tuition assistance.

    Cons

the work culture is purely about performance and personality. If you only have one or the other, you better make friends in hight places.

Frequent "re-structuring" causes management movement and difficult developement. If you can make it as a sales manager for more than 3-5 years, you are doing good, but surely not safe.

Work life balance can be challenging if you want to succeed and make it a career.

    Advice to Management

If you want to make it, focus on training your team. Rely on external resources. keep it fun or your staff will passively revolt.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great first job for a young employee, high school or college. Gain warm sales experience, acquire people skills, build references. Best Buy offers flexible schedules, decent pay, relaxed working environment and a great employee discount.

    Cons

Limited opportunity to advance, long periods of standing, lack of product knowledge training and their 'warning' system are all cons. Employees should not be penalized with a 'warning' if they call in sick or are unable to come in due to severe weather conditions.

    Advice to Management

Best Buy should be managed like a Mac Store. The associates should be helpful with product demos and should work closely with vendors to gain product knowledge. The sale items should be actively promoted in store and not hidden in back to get people to buy a non sale item. Associates should offer warranties and installation services but no be forced to press them on already paying customers.
