I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

With decent pay and multiple promotion outlets, this company is easily one of the best I have worked for. Benefits are solid, hours tend to be flexible and most managers that I have worked with care about their employees. Best Buy is receptive to change when issues are brought to light.

    Cons

For most employees it is still retail, you deal with the good, bad and ugly. While it is easy gain promotions at the store level, it becomes more daunting when you try to look for promotional outlets in the district, market or corporate fields. There are times when redtape seems very prevalent, but is usually overcome at a store level. Communication between line level associates and the decision makers is minimal, even though the line level associates are the one responsible for implementing the new tools or strategies made by the decision makers.

    Advice to Management

When evaluating employees for promotions, don’t just stop at the store level. Look above, see where you think they can go (even if it surpasses you) and help them get there. Don’t just be a manager, be a leader.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great knowledge. They teach you a great deal. Decent pay to start out as a seasonal employee, they are great about working with your scheduling needs.

    Cons

It can be a bit hard to move up in a Tech based company as a woman, I know that it changes from location to location.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits for full time employees including PTO (88 after full time status goes up the next year), insurance, 401k, tuition reimbursement, incentive program, a discount kinda good, kind not -5% above cost), company generally seems to care about their employees, "family"

    Cons

Varies from store to store. I worked at a few. Inconsistency inbetween stores, cutting corners, not following through with actions, return policy too short, it should be at least 30 days on most items, inconsistent in price matching -best buy device does not always pull up sales at stores the policy says we match- and customer is told we can't use their device and is told no. Often work short handed outside of the holidays.

    Advice to Management

Be consistant. Make the call center better, train the employees as a call center does for a couple weeks to a month to learn phone etiquette. Train them to know the answers. The customers hate the phone hub.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of great people who have grown with the company any truly believe in the customer and associate experience. A lot of great perks as you build relations with the electronic vendors

    Cons

Hours for leaders are a challenge. No desire for work/life balance. Slow weeks were 50+ hours. Some leaders care more about attaching products than serving customers
