I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Amazing management
Easy to follow E-learnings to get yourself certified
Valuable learning environment for the tech industry
Possible for progression is very capable

    Cons

Revenue per hour can be high during some seasons (Still achievable, subject to area)
Possibility for error in high dollar transactions can be harmful to career.
Customers can sometimes get very angry, very easily

    Advice to Management

Stay involved with your employees, form bonds with them on a human and friend level. Communicating ways of improvement come across a lot better from a name and face, not a figurehead. 90% of the time, the employees you have are very competent, just need a little nudge.

    Pros

Love the company and what it stands for.

    Cons

There are, like most employers, wide gaps in leadership at the low/mid level. I’ve been with great leaders, and when they are great, the job is the best job I’ve ever had. Same could be said on opposite end of spectrum. There is also still a legacy mindset of fear of losing your job due to past restructures.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

With decent pay and multiple promotion outlets, this company is easily one of the best I have worked for. Benefits are solid, hours tend to be flexible and most managers that I have worked with care about their employees. Best Buy is receptive to change when issues are brought to light.

    Cons

For most employees it is still retail, you deal with the good, bad and ugly. While it is easy gain promotions at the store level, it becomes more daunting when you try to look for promotional outlets in the district, market or corporate fields. There are times when redtape seems very prevalent, but is usually overcome at a store level. Communication between line level associates and the decision makers is minimal, even though the line level associates are the one responsible for implementing the new tools or strategies made by the decision makers.

    Advice to Management

When evaluating employees for promotions, don’t just stop at the store level. Look above, see where you think they can go (even if it surpasses you) and help them get there. Don’t just be a manager, be a leader.
