I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Money, freedom to run business as I see fit as long as I’m performing. Best Buy listens to heir employees and is growing in the right direction. 401k, discounted stock options, lots of good people working here. I am able to developer my team deeper than just teaching them how to sell, but also teaching them how to be better people.

    Cons

It’s retail. The monkey potential is not nearly as high as other commissioned based sales positions. The work you do is not dictated by what you do, but by the choices of others.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good bonus structure, excellent boost in customer service and technical sales knowledge, dynamic day to day interactions, whole solutions sales experience

    Cons

Terrible base pay, little acknowledgement or advancement. You're lucky to get a $.30 raise, even if you're the best in your department, store, district. You are expendable.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job at acknowledgement, or do better locating your talent. I know retainment is a big problem for you, and I could go on endlessly on how it can be improved.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay starting out plus everyone at my store is friendly and helpful. Everyone is really just a big team.

    Cons

Some days are super slow some days are extremely fast, there’s a lot of people who don’t know much about technology.

    Advice to Management

    Perfect

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great team environment and very helpful towards teaching you the latest in technology.

    Cons

All the pressure of commission sales environments with none of the benefits of commission.

    Advice to Management

Maybe find better ways to incentivise making sales that doesn't put so much stress on the employee.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun job where you get to learn about new technology and try to describe it to people who don't understand Amazon or Google.

    Cons

You don't get paid much and shifts are all over the place based on how close you and the scheduling manager are.

    Advice to Management

Work with the people. Nobody likes whip-cracking.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people (sometimes). Easy business hours (earliest 930AM, latest 930PM).

    Cons

You will have to push products and services or be pestered into leaving. It's sales so you will have crappy customers. Product knowledge is of little importance compared to selling abilities and keeping up with your "numbers." Lastly, don't forget that you will be working all holidays except for the day of Christmas. That includes the dreaded Black Friday.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so abrasive about tracking numbers and notice people who work hard to keep the department from falling apart.

Friendly managers and coworkers. Easy to learn about new products.

    Cons

The hours can be inconstant for part time

I worked at Best Buy (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very busy work during the holidays, Black Friday was a mess, customers are turned off by sales approaching them. Assisted people with their phone plans, phone accessories, and computers.

    Cons

Very Low pay, and no benefits, management pressure people to upsell customers and offer extra accessories.

    Advice to Management

Teach your sales people to NOT talk and act and pressure customers like used car salesmen do.

I worked at Best Buy (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They will hire at entry level and train you.

    Cons

Don't expect to move up too high in the company. Managers treat you like you're on commission but you're not (unless you're in cell phone/mobile sales). Even then, you're expected to help them so they can get commission and then you get talked to for not hitting numbers in your own department.

    Advice to Management

For most of us, this is a job, not a career. Treat the sales associates like we're expendable, but don't act like you're doing us all a great favor like Best Buy is the greatest place in the world to work. I saw 5 different General Managers in 7 years of work, so you're just as expendable as we are.
