I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good entry level sales job to learn in, friendly coworkers, good opportunities to move up. Discount CAN be nice.

    Cons

Starting pay isn't to bad but because they focus on a no commission structure can be hard to work with. Benefits usually only come with full time. Training was very lackadaisical. I was fine with working holidays but others may have difficulty with that.

    Advice to Management

Our management was excellent, focused on trying to get people to excel in sales even though training is not exceptional. CEO trying to compete with other online companies is pretty cool too.

    Cons

Don't shine at store 298 the secret is to be thoroughly mediocre if you want to get a promotion.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Experience marketing and selling literally 100s of major brand products and services. Excellent experience gaining customer service skills in a fast paced, dynamic and fluid environment.

    Cons

Outdated sales process. Poor systems operationally. Lots of turnover. Insufficient sales training. Inconsistent customer experience from store to store. Generally poor customer service from associates (there are a few shining lights).

    Advice to Management

Provide opportunity for growth into the corporate space from the retail space for people that are appropriately qualified and have already performed in similar roles at othe major (fortune 100/500 organizations). Especially when they are literally selling millions of dollars of products at a profit for you. Although it is my favorite store, I no longer allow myself to shop there due to my experience.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment, great management, great benefits & AMAZING discounts. Some room for growth (started out as a part timer & ended up a full time vendor in less than a year).

    Cons

Pay could be better, especially because we see how much we make the company per hour. Better staffing, customers often complain about wait times, but that isn't totally best buy's fault.

    Advice to Management

    Possibly pay raises.

    Pros

Great environment, Great perks, Good management, Decent Training, Pay is decent compared to the amount if work actually done.

    Cons

Depending on location business could be excruciatingly slow. Otherwise there were no real cons discovered during my time there.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It really is a team environment. We look out for eachother. You'll make a lot of connections that will help propel your career forward.

    Cons

Best Buy expects its employees to get as many people signed up for credit cards as they can, whether they can afford the payments or not.

They also want you to sell protection plans which are an OK investment if you're buying something like a laptop or tablet, but otherwise they aren't worth the money. You also get no commission on any services you sell, but they will hound you if you don't.

Expect inconsistent hours if you're part time. Best Buy prefers to hire part time because they don't have to pay benefits, but you'll still work full time hours! Well you will some weeks. Other weeks you might only get 15-20

Finally, for all that is holy do NOT become a salesperson. There are much better places to go that will actually compensate you fairly. The paycap for my position is only like 12.50 an hour.

    Advice to Management

If you're going to work your employees hard, at least pay them right. The turnover from long term employees are from people like me who feel undervalued and underpaid.
