I worked at Best Buy part-time

    Pros

Customers are friendly for the most part and empathetic.

    Cons

Micromanagement. It does not matter what the store manager tells you or does themselves. The department managers run the show and hold employees accountable to different standards. I got griped out for taking a product out of a case and waiting with a customer while they decided if they wanted the item. The store manager did the same thing and it was OK when he did it. I also got chastised for leaving my zone simply to throw trash away that was in my zone and trying to keep my work area neat. There are a lot of training modules to learn in a very short time when you begin the position. Be prepared. The training modules I had to view went back a couple of years in time. The mid-managers expect you to get through them in two days. Managers tell you they will provide food during holidays you work. This is true. What they do not tell you is the food is either homemade or cheap, cold pizza from Cici's. The absolute cheapest you can find anywhere in town. There is no communication on break schedules. You will work Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Good luck.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the department managers. Stop holding seasonal store employees to standards that store managers are not held to.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing

    Cons

Managers, supervisors, associates, hours, training, everything!

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring ignorant people that just want to start problems and write you up because they don't like you but have no legitimate reason. Every single person at this place with authority should not have had it! Very immature people! Something at this store really needs a big change management wise!

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Your co-workers are good people.

    Cons

Childish Management. Can't tell exactly what they want, one day it's credit cards, next it is protection plans, next they want a push on things like mobile hotspots. You can be the best and they will still tell you while they are slacking. If you aren't in the club, forget promotions, they already know who they are moving up.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting your friends or people that brown nose, promote those who actually work. Also, find new management techniques, telling someone they are terrible in hopes that it will light a fire under their you know is just insane.
