I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture of Best Buy is a great culture itself but it is nothing in comparison to Geek Squad. Having fun while being the best is what they are all about.

    Cons

I was not a fan of working holidays and weekends. I was happy to find a role outside of the retail hours and not have to work Q4 retail craziness.

    Advice to Management

Management was great at listening but the ratios they used for merit or equity increases didn't compare very well to what they could have done.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best Buy was a fun environment to work! The employees and management all worked well together and cared about each other. I enjoyed working closely with products that I use on a daily basis. Also, it is great to get a discount on products that are things I actually use.

    Cons

Customers can be really mean because the return policy is extremely short. This caused many issues that had to be handled by management because customers sometimes became irate. Working the holiday season was also never fun because Black Friday is more of a "Grey Thursday" now since Best Buy opens at 5pm on Thanksgiving (so be prepared for that).

    Advice to Management

Go back to opening on Friday for Black Friday! Your employees want to spend the holidays with their families and not with crazy customers.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Use, talk about, and work, near the latest consumer technology, without the extreme pressure of upselling an individual. Non-commission based sales.

    Cons

Slightly skewed management system and delegation of roles.

    Advice to Management

    Develop methods of accountability.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good training, they have semi annual market trainings, elearnings are always available. Lots of resources if you’re willing to learn.

    Cons

Management are normally pretty useless, I worked at three locations and that was consistent. There are usually a bunch of young adults employed there, a lot like working at a high school.

    Advice to Management

Be certified in the departments. When employees come to you for help, the answer shouldn’t be I don’t know, figure it out.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

HR support, bonuses, performance management, prescription drug discount, vision discount, employee discount, pet insurance, commuter benefits, savings on auto and home insurance

    Cons

Working with people who are easily agitated if they don’t know what you’re talking about, working with management who sometimes doesn’t understand that bothering customers too many times causes them to get upset and leave

    Advice to Management

My advice to management is to listen more to your lower employees.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time

    Pros

Fast pace, opportunities for advancement, strong leadership

    Cons

Nothing significant to note. Could look into improving certain fringe benefits such as offering standing desks to all. Also company could inprove training programs.

    Advice to Management

Believe the company could move faster to grow the company, including taking calculated risks with M&A activity. Overall keep doing what you’re doing.
