employee discount is huge. and working around the latest and greatest technology and people who are very knolegable on electronics is also a plus.

    Cons

its a retail store and a corporate pyramid. just like every other retail job.

    Advice to Management

keep up the good work, at least at 767

    Pros

Great environment if you're into electronics. Best Buy is one of the biggest movers in the electronics retail market. The work environment varies from store to store, but customer service is key (at least at my store).

    Cons

Some problems with consistency of goals and other company policies, but this is mainly on a store level. As of now, I would not say the majority of the problems I have are directly related to any major policy at best buy, more so I would call into account the attitudes of the management of the store. I suppose this could be expected, but those who engage in amicable activities with managers outside of work tend to get the most favor.

    Advice to Management

As long as stock is kept plentiful and consistent around the holiday season, I have very few complaints regarding Senior Management (provided the question is referencing corporate).

    Pros

doing what you love, discounts are cool. Also, you get to see all the new electronics that come out and customers will always give you feedback

    Cons

management. depending on location, long hours, and forced to work freight at night after a long 10 hour day of working and having another job

    Advice to Management

family first, its more important than anything...even marking merchandise for another department, because they were busy chatting or playing xbox on display

    Pros

The benefits and opportunities at Best Buy are pretty good. For an hourly employee, you can join their Stock Program and get incredible discounts. You get to meet a lot of different people from a lot of different backgrounds. In addition, Best Buy does a great job at encouraging everyone to work as a "team." They have team meetings everyday before the store opens to make sure everyone is on the same page and aligned with the same goals. The work atmosphere can get hectic, but if you like a fast pace it becomes something to look forward to.

    Cons

Their senior leadership seems to be incompetent. Things that happen don't happen for a reason and they don't seem very responsive to their employees requests, etc. The politics/tiers of leadership in Best Buy are thick and never-ending. A lot of bureaucracy. They don't do a lot of recognition for their employees and it is hard to stand out from everyone else.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people. Know your people. Respond to your people.

    Pros

    Great employee discount program; Working with a great group;

    Cons

Management was very inflexible with schedule changes and availability; The customers are by far the most stressing part. While working in Geek Squad you pretty much just get yelled at all day by others.

    Advice to Management

Create a more flexible work environment

    Pros

Discounts! Accessories are hugely discounted. There are sometimes hot girls that come through so its nice to chat them up for a while while actually trying to help them decide on a product.

    Cons

Pushing things customers don't want, new internet services, accessories that aren't really needed, pushing warranties. Dealing with stupid customers that don't understand why there is no one to help them. I mean yelling at me doesn't help you, I mean... when I actually go behind the wall to get your product, do you really think I don't drop it a few times if you're mean to me. Payback on mean customers is satisfying at times.

    Advice to Management

Some of the sales people are dirty... even between stores, "walking" customers to other locations because they don't want the warranty.

    Pros

The level of respect is incredible, you are treated truly as if you were part of a team working together for a common goal. The meetings really show even a low level employee that management is concerned about you and your professional growth.

    Cons

It does get hectic as any other retail store, although there are some issues with management i can understand why. Overall however managers must be able to differentiate their personal lives with business after all you are here to work and not visit a shrink. Management also fails at times to work with the schedule but again that may be something thats common among retail stores during holiday seasons.

    Advice to Management

Leadership, leadership & leadership your employees want to know that you can handle your task, although they love being part of that role they are not. Get involved in issues surrounding employees as much as you can and you will have a more effective work force. Get the message out there that you are there for when they need you and try to see the daily tasks through their eyes.
