I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Challenging, Constantly evolving landscape, Clients are some of the best. Corporate Culture is the most open evolving and positive culture I've ever been a part of. The people you get to meet as vendor partners, co-workers and customers are some of the nicest people I've ever worked with

    Cons

Nothing that doesn't exist in any other retail environment, Unreasonable Customers, Not being able to make some people happy, pressure for sales goals, etc

    Advice to Management

I understand the pressure to succeed is high from the top but being able to scale that effectively from top to bottom is vital and communicate and accept feedback up and down the chain is paramount

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My favorite thing about working there was my coworkers. There was such a variety. Some were nerdy, hilarious, jocks, dumb, or smart. I had a really good time working there, and learned a lot about the newest available tech.

    Cons

Sometimes management really doesn't listen to your schedule preference. They try most of the time, but I needed a more flexible schedule since I was a student.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention what your employees want. If they come in feeling frustrated and unheard every day, you will end up losing some good employees.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Early exposure and knowledge of latest technology, you get to help customers find the right solution for their needs, feels like your helping and gives a sense of accomplishment

    Cons

The company never seems to learn from its mistakes and continues to blunder over the same things year after year, will work you as much as possible and never pay you properly. They do not value their employees

    Advice to Management

Be kind to your employees, pay them proper wages, turnover will decrease

I have been working at Best Buy full-time

    Pros

There is a lot of opportunity in this location. The leadership is regarded with authority and respected while the employees strive to achieve whatever goals are given to them. Department supervisor is very understanding.

    Cons

Currently understaffed making the work load higher per employee. Some of the corperate dictated decisions seem to not fit well with this location.

    Advice to Management

I'd recomend taking a little more time to consider what kinds of things you are truely willing to let slide that might be upsetting other employees

    Pros

It is a fast pace work place that will teach you how to think on your feet.
The people are the real reason to work there, techies and electronics lovers will surround you.
If you are friends with management and have a high traffic store with great employees you may have a chance and being promoted.

    Cons

Management plays favorites in every aspect of the business, many of them hire their friends.
Corporate is a disgrace, almost all of the ideas they come up with for selling are not applicable in reality.
It's retail so know what you're getting into.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to thank your employees often.
Tell your employees why things they are selling are important, not just a list of generic benefits that are suppose to apply to every customer.
Fire bad employees, don't let them sit around, and thus making room to promote the good employees.

Good discounts and accommodations for employees.

    Cons

No commission on sales, just monthly bonuses (if your store hits them).

    Pros

Discount can be beneficial with its 5% over cost. 401k matching is competitive and a good incentive. Policy is to promote from within.

    Cons

Best Buy rarely promotes from within on the store level and pay compensation is among the worst in the work force for technical services. Management is inadequate and poorly trained dependent upon location and stores.

    Advice to Management

The sales floor should be brought in on sales strategy development. Training and focus of the company over the past decade has constantly come without the input from employees and over recent month it has shown that the corporate office cannot govern the sales floor properly flying blind. Learning Lounge trainings are inefficient and waste company labor when employees cannot train while at work and only get 2 hours a month to train at home. In store trainings are a must and must come from experience. Something for the Geek Squad precinct that needs to be heavily trained on before any agent hits the counter should be how to use STAR. At my location no one has been trained more than 5-10 minutes in STAR before they are thrown to the wolves. Management needs to recognize its employees and reward them for their loyalty and performances. When the CEO takes a $100,000 wage increase and the average annual adjustment in pay (it is not a raise when its below inflation) of 3-5% there is a large gap in compensation when the company's stock is hovering around a 52 week low on a daily basis.
