I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Best Buy is very accommodating of schedules. Co-workers are great and management is good as well. Very easy to move in the company.

    Cons

Best Buy pushes their credit cards very heavily and that can be over the top sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employees' individual strengths rather than have a standard expectation for all.

    Pros

My coworkers are smart, we have fun while being the best, and I get to sell gadgets.

    Cons

The customers can be difficult sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should be aware that I feel like I do not know the path to promotion. It was easy to become a supervisor but now I am totally lost and do not know what they want from me to be promoted again.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced environment that develops learning experience and skills. Ability to learn about the environment. The best part about the experience was learning about computers. There is thorough training to make sure you are not only familiar with the software aspects of troubleshooting but also with the hardware aspects. By the end of my time there I had built up enough confidence to build my own computer/familiarize myself with the parts.

    Cons

Pay. No matter what, unless you're satisfied with a low income job there's no point. It will take years to advance and you have to work two times harder than most professional entry level positions.

    Pros

Developing future leaders in the company

    Cons

    Must excel in change management

    Advice to Management

Would like to see more development time and resources for leadership.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can develop valuable transferable communication skills, get discounts on products, are surrounded by a lot of cool gadgets, meet some interesting customers

    Cons

High sales pressure for little benefit (no commission, very difficult to bonus), management was rarely knowledgable about products, inconsistent policies (e.g. constantly having to change department layout based on preferences of particular managers)

    Advice to Management

Reward good behavior, don't just focus on punishing poor performance. Learn a little more about what products you carry so the training process isn't totally do-it-yourself.
