I worked at Best Buy (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Pay, benefits, growth oppurtunity, training

    Cons

Senior management acted as if they didn't need to help or assist

    Advice to Management

It's better to be a hands on manager. People learn from experience so why not show instead of tell.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers were the best. Flexible with scheduling if you go to school or have another job. New tech products to play with.

    Cons

Pay is unfair. New hires coming in with no experience making more if not the same as you even after having a year or so under your belt. Lots of favoritism from management. Moving from sales to a different department (Geek Squad) was being block by the GM. Had to get HR involed. After that GM was all buddy buddy with me for like a week.

    Advice to Management

Pay better and treat employees as more that just a number.

    Cons

Friendly staff at my store with the occasional narcissistic, condescending, morons lurking in the shadows.

    Advice to Management

Treat. Your. Employees. Fairly. After X-mas stopped getting hours. I have bills to pay.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Pay. Great interactions with people and tech.

    Cons

Difficult to get promoted. When you do get promoted you job will change shortly after or you will be laid off. Company cares more about profit than its employees. As a Manager you are expected to work until you fall over at witch point Best Buy will be there to ask. Why are you laying down? But you can get a $50 after just 10 years of service. If you hate your family , free time and dignity this is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Promote the ones who work the hardest and are loyal before you loose them and finding yourself actually having to work.

Work life schedule can be tough for managers. Demand a lot from there people. Always changing focuses.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on Mobile and other departments that are high margin. Create better incentives for employees while not loosing customer service.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee discount is amazing, had a handful of fun people to work with. Often got free stuff from vendors and from contests.

    Cons

Leadership is out of touch with reality, sales practices were impractical, district and corporate managers could care less about you. Too much to count.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more! So many hard working folks that are paid poorly despite huge product knowledge. Often lost great employees because of overworking.
