I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I met some great people while working here. The culture is how you, your colleagues, and leadership team make it. I got to know people outside the workplace and that helped us build a better and collaborative environment at work. I even met my now Fiance and I couldn't be happier. Also, the discount you get is pretty good.

    Cons

The rude and entitled customers, that comes with working retail. Also having to pick up the slack of others because they're not as passionate or hardworking as you are. Leadership can be a hit or miss because of the character and length of time people have worked for the company can really change a person.

    Advice to Management

Take time to really get to know your employees and get opinions from them. They have a lot to offer.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Frequent Breaks and a good manager/supervisor to individual sales associate relationship (for the most part). The hours are reasonable and fit your schedule well. They have a break room that has tons of amenities that are helpful for recharging.

    Cons

The customer base is not very technically informed, so generally you will need to dumb down your explanations especially if you work in tech sales. The sales goals for my store were $8,000 a day, which wasn't a problem on most days because I worked in the computer sales department. The goal can feel daunting and if you have a slow day or the system fails to catalog your sales then you might get a talking to by management.

    Advice to Management

Understand that the sales goal is good but needs to account for the fact that customer levels are variable and therefore cannot always be met.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good starting pay if you dont have bills.

    Cons

Management was mean with unrealistic expectations.
Credit card is a rip off for customers. Unless you like luring people into debt I dont recommend this position.

    Advice to Management

A good community and happy employees actually does good for productivity. Dont be condescending.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Getting to work with the latest consumer technology.
    Product training is great.
Doing specific product trainings can get you great deals on electronics.
Good place to learn sales techniques and put them into practice on a daily basis.

    Cons

Managers are very numbers focused versus people focused, seems to stem from the top. But that is the nature of sales I suppose.
Promotion is very political, better get good at what the right people want you to be good at within the retail store. Don’t rock the boat or ask too many questions, pretend you know what you’re doing even if you don’t.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are the lifeblood of your business. Invest more into their pay and benefits so you don’t lose the best ones once they finish school.
If you hated the way your previous managers conducted business then don’t fall into their bad habits because it helps relieve your own stress temporarily.
All in all appreciative of the time invested in me, advice given, and the lessons learned.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Above average discounts, hours are somewhat flexible, plenty of resources for learning.

    Cons

They still tax you on your paycheck on goods that you purchase with your discount. Plenty of butt kissing, better watch your back since people with look for ways to get rid of you.

    Advice to Management

Focus on what's important to your employees and they will want to work for you, there is a lot of upper management that has a condescending attitude towards employees and that will never work.
