I have been working at Best Buy as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Seattle office where most of the mobile developers are located has a lot of autonomy and is very developer friendly. The product managers and developers work well together and the expectations are reasonable.
The people are fun, kind, and smart. Every person will drop what they're doing to help and its embedded in the culture. They invest in new employees because they fully intend to bring them in long term. I can't remember the last time somebody left for another job.

    Cons

Can be too enterprisey usually in small ways such as unnecessarily strict Wi-Fi settings, the bureaucracy of a strong organization structure, and features coming down from above.

    Advice to Management

You have a good thing going and it shows in the quality of the product, loosen up a little.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun atmosphere, co-workers who are into the same hobbies as I was

    Cons

A ton of pressure to sell Best Buy-branded credit cards, Games Club Unlocked memberships, and warranty plans - and usually all at once in the same transaction. Management will walk around and breathe down your neck about them and give you quizes about perks of each program on the spot. It is very offputting.

    Pros

Best Buy is a great and solid company with plenty of room for growth and learning. The benefits are amazing and I mean more than just the discount.

    Cons

Its a massive company and sometimes management is less than. If you can adapt, learn and bottom line perform with a good attitude you will outlast the bad managers and can move up.

Work the plan and stop trying to change the SOP the company has set in place. Use your resources and for the ones that are doing this, keep it you. You are what make the company great!
