I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Watch over employees and customers. I'm a people person and I don't make customers feel uneasy while keeping an eye on them.

    Cons

The only downside I have with this company is the pay wage. It's hard to make and have a living on a non-comparable wage.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees and hear what they have to say. And don't always give into customers. We are here to make money not give it away.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Best buy makes sure that their employees are trained properly, fun atmosphere, get to see new technology as it's coming out.

    Cons

Some positions are only part time so it may be hard to get more hours, customers can be grouchy, hours may not be static.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Exceptional training, Customer Service experience, and decent IT experience. 90% of fellow employees were great to work with...excluding a few managers, and the GM.

    Cons

Next to no chance for advancement within the store. They have left some manager/supervisor positions unfilled, and have even hired a lot of out-of-store talent to fill positions instead of hiring from within. Compensation level is about what you'd expect from a summer job between school years. They almost outright refuse to provide raises outside of the standard 5% per year (which doesn't stay ahead of average yearly inflation). They have even allowed top performers quit for other jobs because they wouldn't attempt to match the pay when given the opportunity; sometimes amounting to only $1-3 an hour more than what the store was paying them. The new GM of the store was not a trustworthy manager. He would engage in questionable tactics to force out people he didn't like. Such as changing their schedules on extremely short notice, and without warning. Management constantly berated employees if numbers were not made, and found ways to threaten your job. You were required to talk to everyone about Air Cards (a high margin item) regardless of what the customer actually came in to buy. If someone came in to buy an external hard drive/blank CDs, and you didn't mention Air Cards, management would come down hard on you. Managers would also stand outside of departments and look over your shoulder. If it appeared that you were not busy, they would hound you to approach customers...even if said customers had been approached several times, and did not want assistance. When I started, management was VERY picky about who they hired -- they wanted exceptional employees. Eventually their turnover rate was so high, and were so desperate for help, they had "now hiring" signs plastered everywhere. They became very lax in their hiring process

    Advice to Management

Actually implement competitive pay rates/raises to keep top performers. If you want "professional" level talent, then actually pay for it. Don't hound your employees every time a customer leaves with an empty basket (no services/attachments).

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great first job, Awesome employee discount, friendly atmosphere, customers usually seem to leave very satisfied and come back for our services, managers work on the floor with you and are readily available for questions or concerns of either employees or customers.

    Cons

uniform required, everyone must work on the cash register, schedule changes a lot after you are already at work (example being you are scheduled 4-8 but when you get there they will ask for you to work 4-close instead)

    Advice to Management

Management was awesome when I worked there, It was great that they were always available.
