I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Ever changing product and customer flow keeps things interesting
A great culture that fosters fun work environment and caring upper management who are interested in your personal growth.
Great experience to take to a career as there are plenty of opportunities to excel at leading, coaching and training

    Cons

Not enough turn over in upper management--Failure as a manager/gm often just gets you reshuffled inside the organization. Constant reorganizations of business model to serve the shareholders bottom line, not the customers. Poor internal systems fail to deliver a quality experience for the customers.

    Advice to Management

Spend money on infrastructure, elevate/focus on/develop new talent instead of making due with inadequate managers. Diversity in upper management that reflects the community.

I have been working at Best Buy (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you in college it will work with your schedule, for classes and breaks.
Decent pay compared to other retail stores.
Fun to see all the new products in action and you also get benefits from some of the vendors

    Cons

The company didn't know what they needed to do to succeed. We implemented so many different rules and guidelines over the years but it seems they have settled down a little when I was leaving.
Sometimes there are people working in geeksquad who have no idea what they are doing.
Management was pretty awesome but some managers from other areas couldn't care less if you needed help over in GS.

I have been working at Best Buy part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

working with nice employees, the discount is definitely nice, flexible hours

    Cons

the management is basically required to do what corporate tells them to do, and lower level has to do what management tells you, basically whisper down the lane which obviously causes problems.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Average employee discounts, customer service training, good job security for sales associates, flexible with time off.

    Cons

Low pay, promotion is non-existent, corporate management looks at you like a number. Unrealistic sales agenda.

    Advice to Management

Learn to communicate with your workers and establish some type of compensation for people that excel at sales.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great interactions with customers and management.

    Cons

management can get too demanding on side tasks such as cleaning shelving restocking etc when there is a HOT sales floor. they would demand 12 feet or more of shelves to be fully stocked cleaned etc while the place was jumpin. I couldnt do it all at the same time. complete overload. 2012. previous years were well balanced between customer and sales floor maintenance.

    Advice to Management

hire people to clean/manage the sales floor. you cannot rely on your sales team to take care of it durring a usually busy day.

    Pros

Good discount, most people were nice, used to be fun until management shift cant really say much else

Vendor perks were good too, if you knew how to get them

    Cons

I understand that a job is what you make of it but Best Buy was awful for me. Sexist male managers who only hired pretty girls who couldn't spell their own name if they tried. I was getting paid less than someone who did the exact same job and I had a degree and certifications whereas he did not. I had no idea who my managers were since there were so many so outside of my supervisor I was lost.

There was no training outside of those eLearnings they made you take and once the holidays were over, I would be lucky to get more than one day a week, although sometimes I would go months without being on the schedule until one day the forced me to quit over something dumb

Management had their favorites so if they didnt like you, expect your life to be a living hell.

Also the pay was crap. I was making little over $10.50 to start as a PC Tech

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring incompetent fools and focus more on making the existing employees happy and the work environment more enjoyable. They should also pay more for computer techs and the like
