I have been working at Best Buy full-time

    Pros

Management allows for some independence and doesn't micromanage. I personally don't feel that numbers are shoved down our throats. The employee discount is nice, though it never seems to apply to what I want it to. Regardless, it's a fun environment where people seem to genuinely care.

    Cons

No room for upward growth. Terrible pay after the restructure. The people who train and hire our associates are barely paid more than the associates themselves. Certain supervisors seem don't seem up to the task of being at the level they're supposed to be. Best Buy Mobile is rude and lazy as is their supervisor. Operations team takes abuse while Sales is coddled and not held accountable. It falls on a select few people to pick up the slack for those who are lazy, and thus they are overworked and underpaid.

    Advice to Management

This is not a management thing, this is a corporate issue. Management can't change this. The structure is all wrong and it needs to resemble what it was before last year. Pay Operations more, pay your supervisors more. They have to put up with a lot more than someone selling a computer or a TV.

    Pros

Flexible Hours, good training, easy job, goal oriented.

    Cons

There was a lot of inconsistency from corporate message. The management didn't have any structure so they had trouble providing it for their team.

    Advice to Management

You do a lot of tasks that can be delegated. Focus more on growing your people, so they can grow your business, and not trying to just help out to put a band-aid on such a large wound.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, competitive pay, ability to drill down into business results. Monthly and Quarterly bonus potential. Training opportunities. Rapid pace for change. Disengaged people will not linger. Employeee discount/ accomodations.

    Cons

System challenges. Work life balance is a joke around the holidays. Long days, continue to do more with less in light of recent operational cuts. Victories rarely celebrated, amid constant pressure to drive metrics. Intense pressure to sell Geek Squad services, Protection plans, and open credit cards.

    Advice to Management

Store hardware/systems are dated and don't work as intended, must upgrade here to keep pace with the direction we are being asked to take the business.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Always changing to become better, lots of positions open around the U.S., opens business decisions to the employee, and good benefits.

    Cons

No chance at a consistent schedule, ever. End of the year holiday season can be very frustrating and unpleasant for retail associates. The amount of effort asked versus the amount of money you earn is not proportional. Management is not held to as high as a standard as expected, many managers have positions they are not suited for but it is difficult to lose a position in retail management if you aren't the GM.

    Advice to Management

Start holding managers at the store level to a higher standard of operation. Gauge their performance based on employee experience to some degree. Open up the requirements for hiring for the position and make management positions less of an "anchor" for people to get and hold. Because it's not hard to hold onto a job at Best Buy, some people will essentially start to underperform once they reach a comfort level.

I worked at Best Buy part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

fun, fast environment, flexible, meet tons of ppl

    Cons

terrible raises, growth is favoritized, you dont make nearly as much as you devote to selling

    Advice to Management

This company should be an elite one, ppl swear by your products because of your employees so it would be better if you paid more to loyal employees and hire less incompetent workers just to pay little.
