I worked at Best Buy part-time

    Pros

    -Discount
    -Easy job while in school

    Cons

    - Too much store management and they are all over the place as far as what their responsibilities are and what they actually do
    - Too much emphasis on metrics that aren't reflective of actual performance, again due to lack of skilled/trained/experienced management.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

When it comes down to it, my job is fun. I spend all day talking to people about the latest and greatest in technology and what it can do for them. Non-commission based sales make the job a lot less stressful, and more often than not I get to be proud of what I do because my number one priority is a happy customer. The work environment is primarily a store to store concern. I find that with my current store, my coworkers and managers are mostly good natured and work well together. But I understand that isn't always the case. I believe it is a similar story in regards to career development. There are plenty of problems but at the end of the day, if you like technology you will have fun working at best buy.

    Cons

The motto of Best Buy management appears to be "focus on everything, all the time, in less time." We are consistently told to go above and beyond, and then after we do that, to go above and beyond that. It can be frustrating and at times our feedback goes unheeded, especially with upper management. Despite not being on commission, we are frequently treated as if we are, and there is a lot of pressure to hit our sales goals. There is a lot of oversight and micromanagement at times, but most immediate management has been very team-centric and always been a pleasure to work with.

    Advice to Management

Focus first and foremost on teaching employees to help each and every customer in a meaningful way, and sales second. This is touted as a big value, but in practice it falls by the wayside.

I worked at Best Buy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun atmosphere, great people if you have the right store, nice employee pricing

    Cons

    Low pay, innovation not welcome

    Advice to Management

Look at experience beyond the blue shirt. Some of your best people haven't been with the company for a gazillion years.

  5. "Good place to work but they care more about their sales quota than helping the customer out."

I worked at Best Buy part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great job for a high schooler. Plenty of technology to learn and great training program for devices. You get to meet plenty of people also.

    Cons

Again, management cared more about sales quota than helping a customer out. If the customer wasn't in your area, you shouldn't go and help them.

    Advice to Management

Care more about customer support and not so much about a sales quota and staying only in your area.

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

fantastic place to work. so far I've gained alot of knowledge in this world. wonderful culture and the people are amazing

    Cons

at some points and I'm sure plenty of other people can back me up. it seems like there is a lot of favoritism that goes on within the company and that is probably my biggest problem

    Advice to Management

since the problem with the comopany seems to be management i would say you guys need to start focusing on the departmesnts and the emplyees as a hole. bring back some of the culture that seems to be fading away as well

I have been working at Best Buy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Vendor relationships and networking is very easy. The company supports you and gives you opportunities to grow. Massive amounts of product training allow you to be the expert in the home entertainment category.

    Cons

Systems to complete purchase orders are difficult when building large purchase orders. There isn't much of an incentive to perform better, because wages are not performance based

    Advice to Management

    Invest in better systems
