I have been working at Best Western full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I work at Best Western Corporate in Phoenix, AZ. Management is really invested in your growth here. In my department we are a close group and from the top down it feels like the managers take more time to make sure you have all the resources you need to succeed than most companies I have worked for. They are open to new ideas or trying new things as long as it will improve the overall business. As an employee here I feel valued and enjoy coming to work on a daily basis.
Travel - In my job I get the opportunity to travel and meet with our hotels. This is a rewarding experience as well because the corporate staff and the hotel members share the same goals and values.

    Cons

Occasionally it can be unclear what some teams short term goals are. You may be working on one thing and then be told to switch to another. It can be frustrating at times but it's never boring.

    Advice to Management

Continue the engagement from management to employees.
Continue to work on make communication from department to department more transparent.

    Pros

Potential for procuring rewards points redeemable for stays and prizes. Reservation software is easy and effective in booking stays for guests. Ability to travel.

    Cons

Break schedules were not strictly adhered to when working alone at the desk. Management not always present to difuse guest issues.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more tools to aid in guest satisfaction such as freedom to allow late check outs, discounts, and coupons as seen fit.

I worked at Best Western full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Steady work with generally known moments of being busy or slow (as guests arrive mostly in late afternoon-evening and leave in the morning). Don't worry, because there is quite a lot to do during slow periods, except for possibly the night auditor. The night auditor has specific duties and can fill the rest of his or her time with personal work when not talking to insomniac guests. Some hotels have a bonus structure based on guest and revenue goals which could add anywhere from $1-3/hour on top of the $9/hour standard.

    Cons

Bad or rude guests is about the only con to this job. Staying professional with them is a real challenge many times.

    Advice to Management

Work on finding a revenue goal bonus for household and maintenance employees as well s for the front desk.

Working for Best Western you have to be very flexible with scheduling due to the fact that the business is 24/7 and sometimes you may be a little short handed and have to fill in for shortages in staffing.

    Advice to Management

Continue to treat staff members fairly with good pay wages and benefits and career opportunities it is important to have a good work/life balance.
