I have been working at Betfred full-time

    Pros

Low skill requirements, easy to do job for the most part. Can be somewhat flexible if part time (i worked part time while at uni)

    Cons

Depending on where you work most of your stress will come from bad customers
Poor W/L balance when full time employee. Most staff lazy

    Advice to Management

Better pay in line with other bookmakers for shop deputies and managers, more autonomy for managers over their shops. Less juvenile competitive tactics with other bookmakers.

I worked at Betfred part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pros were that you received generous tips from some of the customers sometimes.

    Cons

This company have no idea at all about Health and Safety at work. If your shop is in a rough area, you can expect to get verbally abused and/or threatened almost all the time at work when customers lose their bets and/or when customers are trying to intimidate you into letting them to get away with suspicious/fraudulent behaviour. As long as the customers are placing bets and patronising BETFRED, you are told to put up with the abuse and to not take things personal. Working here is one of the most devastating experiences of my life but it was also an eye opening experience.

    Advice to Management

You need to treat your staff with more human respect. Stop encouraging staff to put up with abuse. Some managers choose to put up with the abuse themselves because of sale targets but then these managers make other members of staff under them to put up with same abuse from customers. Try and ensure that your employees have some dignity doing their jobs.

    Pros

When I was there - there was hard working staff, exciting projects, local and easy to get to. Swift decision making. Not much else to recommend it.

    Cons

Strange management, no HR, paranoia everywhere, no proper goal setting or reviews or feedback, many key people in the wrong jobs.

    Advice to Management

Impose a proper commitment to staff development and a decent set of HR processes would lead to less churn. A complete overhaul of Management and their processes.

Struggling to think of anything else!

    Cons

Long hours (10 hour shifts with just a 30 min lunch break!)
    Nightshifts doing basically nothing
Terrible management, pretty much none existent in my dept
No proper training on a of bespoke systems
