I have been working at Bethesda Hospital East full-time

    Pros

Smaller hospital so you feel a sense of community

    Cons

Very poor training- it’s hard for a skeleton crew to care for patients, support department needs and train new staff Nurses are pulled in so many directions that you can feel like your are plugging wholes instead of providing focused care. Pay is below average. Detached and poor leadership.

    Pros

If you enjoy the rampant bullying and hostility that is a huge problem in many south Florida workplaces, pick Bethesda Hospital East laboratory.

    Cons

Workplace bullying that defies description.....absolutely disgusting. Management don’t do a thing about it. Baptist Hospital has taken them over, but it is unlikely that they ousted 40% of their laboratory staff in order to create a better environment. The bottom line is this: if you are in South Florida and your first language is English, you MUST be very careful where you take a job. In the case of Bethesda Hospital East laboratory, the entire workplace culture is Third World Caribbean. There is no place in the entire country like South Florida. You have been warned. This lab can’t seem to keep employees.....there is at least one temp agency/recruiter who refuses to work with them. Too many people have left with nasty stories to tell. If you’ve ever been on vacation to a place in the Caribbean, and been shocked and frightened by what you saw when you left the resort....well, you’ve seen a glimpse of the cultures that have defined south Florida. If you think that people suddenly become professional, tactful, and non vindictive as soon as they enter North America, you are gravely mistaken. If you think that you are ready for the culture of south Florida, you are most likely very mistaken. It is of course very sad that many people live hand to mouth in many parts of the world. Very sad. It is understandable that people who spend most waking moments of their lives seeing to it that basic survival needs are met will learn over the course of their lives to be angry and vicious. Don’t make the mistake of believing that people will suddenly “soften up” after being in North America for a few years....they don’t.
