    Pros

It is very rewarding supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities.

    Cons

Poor remuneration, disjointed management style often even as BLC pulls itself from some hard times, poor to average communication and sometimes unkind treatment by the managers.

    Advice to Management

Please be kinder to your employees. Treat them better and pay them a little better/more livable wages.

    Advice to Management

Be transparent and continue to communicate with staff.

    Pros

Its a good Organization, christian based and help improve the lives of the people they serve

    Cons

The employees do not stay longer, most of them they come and go.
management is somewhat biased, and tend not to listen to the opinions of the employees.

    Advice to Management

The services provided to the clients are through your employees, once they are happy you are then assured they will provide better services.

    Pros

The individuals & staff (that weren't RACIST, LOTTA RACIST staff). Taking Individuals out to have fun RARELY happened understaffed due to POOR MANAGEMENT! Affecting the "people they support." THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT BEING SUPPORTED and aren't able to speak up for themselves = NEGLECTED, MENTALLY, EMOTIONALLY and FINANCIALLY ABUSED!

    Cons

Management changes caused 80% of seasoned Staff to leave GREATLY affecting the people they support. Feel VERY BAD for the Individuals because they are NOT getting what they show in their trainings. They live a sad life NOT getting the attention or care needed. Individuals had to put up with BED BUGS FOR MONTHS! Staff were STEALING from the Individuals, management was notified, NOTHING was done!
It was a good agency that gets worse daily. REVOLVING DOOR can't keep staff! Individuals NEGLECTED!

    Advice to Management

CARE about the people you support & the DIRECT CARE staff. DO WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR TRAINING VIDEOS! It's AMAZING THIS PLACED IS STILL OPEN and hasn't been CLOSED FOR NEGLECTING THE INDIVIDUALS?

I worked at Bethesda Lutheran Communities (More than a year)

    Pros

Bethesda has an incredible mission. There is no better feeling than getting to know the people Bethesda supports, and the staff nation-wide. It's incredible being able to advocate for people with disabilities every day.

    Cons

During my time at Bethesda, so many of my colleagues and myself had big ideas that could have done incredible things. They tend to get shot down, because it doesn't seem like the executives trust the people in some departments. There is also an expectation that everything must happen now instead of with some thought and carefulness. That made it very hard to be passionate about work. Instead, they jump from agency to agency trying to find something that works.

I worked at Bethesda Lutheran Communities full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The best part about Bethesda is the people they support and the organization's mission.

    Cons

Bethesda brought in new executive leadership in 2014. There was a lot of excitement and promises to get the organization on the right track, however that excitement is largely gone and the organization seems to be spiraling. Leadership is attempting to run the organization like a branch of the military, but lacks the consistent long-term vision and precision that defines the military. Staffing is a carousel, with people fleeing to other jobs and positions being eliminated weekly. This has, unsurprisingly, created a culture of fear and mistrust of leadership. The strategic direction seems to be based solely on whim and who has management's ear and changes almost as regularly as the staff does. This is not a good place for innovators as there are many people protecting the mediocre status-quo and pushing for new ideas is a quick way to get a target on your back. The HR Department has no ability to recruit talent, recognize top performers or handle employee relations situations and seems to lack a rudimentary understanding of what an HR Department is supposed to do. Many departments are being led by individuals who have questionable qualifications.

    Advice to Management

The Board of Directors needs to take a deep look at current leadership and the organization's recent track record and determine if they feel the decisions being made are consistent with the organization's mission.
