Ethical issues apart, a very relaxed place to work in
Jun 27, 2022 - Senior Software Engineer in Malta, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Relaxed workplace - Great work-life balance, you can work from 9 to 6 and no one will bat an eye. Paid and optional overtime. - Teams are great until upper management, most team leads are cooperative and want you to grow. - Team building events are amazing and the summer party was a great way to network with people working in different departments. - Good learning and professional opportunities that come with a company this size. - Great career opportunities.
Cons
- HR issues, after the war in Ukraine started, an individual came to work wearing a t-shirt with Putin's face on it, in front of other Ukrainian employees. Racism and ethical issues have been serious in some teams. - Some people in management should not be working in their positions. The lack of experience from their end is creating conflicts inside teams/between areas. - Salary is below average for the position. - A lot of work can be uninspiring. Doing minimal changes to the website could be your workload 90% of the time. - Churn is bad, way worse than the industry average for the role. Lots of people coming and going. - Too many yes-men in upper management, over-promising, under-delivering. The person in question that wore Putin's shirt is still working there. They keep openly supporting the war in front of others with no repercussion. They have also drawn multiple times the symbol with the letter "Z", for fun (deleting it afterwards)

- Former Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
non-controlling work space overall, nice people
Cons
irrelevant salaries to current market and not planning to update it properly, most middle developers in Malta office have between 40-45k euro gross
- Former Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
Work is done during work hours only. Malta is a nice location with sea. The induction is promising and sets high expectations. There are regular company events.
Cons
Data infrastructure is outdated and most of the time is spent in fixing data issues. Multiple data teams doing the same job, politically competing to prove their worth. Solutions are not reliable and keep breaking. Leaders have little past experience or quality education specializing in areas that they are responsible for. Hence they are more of an administrator as opposed to a "leader" or "expert". Overall not much scope to learn something new from your peers or the company - immature setup!

For me, Betsson gives me everything....a stimulating and challenging role, in a state of the art office environment. Its fast paced with no day the same and no matter the obstacle, we never lose our sense of fun!
