I worked at Bibb County School District part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have always had a concern and care for children and their success. By working for the Bibb County School District as a Clerk I had an important role in their educational process and well being as students.

    Cons

Children in Title I schools really need help in being educated. There are too, many failing students in the elementary level of school.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep up the good work. There is always room for improvement.

I worked at Bibb County School District full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

ANYbody can get a teaching job. The desperation is palpable. The amount of not-quite-certified teachers, or not highly-qualified teachers is astounding. So, get in if you want a job with governmental benefits, and you have to actually be a nutcase before they fire you.

    Cons

That 17 student-to-teacher ratio is fake. Each classroom (I taught in Miller Middle School, but most of the district is worse) is near or above 30 students! Deplorable. Don't expect the administrators to do anything either. Suspension or any disciplinary action make the school look worse to the county, in the short term, so they just - don't. Not a single real problem with behavior was taken care of for the entire year.

    Advice to Management

STOP BEING AFRAID OF SHORT-TERM "BAD MARKS" ON YOUR REVIEWS! It's a pity Amendment 1 failed, because Bibb County is failing US. If you are too afraid to do your job because of YOUR bosses, how do you expect the actual teachers to feel? Knowing in our guts that YOU won't back us up - ever - is a really bad feeling.

    Pros

The people are nice to work with, the job is overwhelming. There are so many requirements placed on teachers that are difficult to accomplish in the time allotted.

    Cons

The culture of this school system allows for students to be rude and disrespectful of faculty with little repercussion.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with parents what classroom expectations are. Hold families and students accountable who continue to be disruptive of the education process.

    Pros

The heart is in the right place.

    Cons

    - The infrastructure from the top down is very disconnected.
    - Discipline is still a concern within the classroom, but many do not report it (document) because it will make the "numbers" look bad for the school.
    - According to 2014-2015 state district rankings, Bibb County is ranked near the bottom #160 out of 177 school district
    - 37 public schools (80%) minority and 19 private schools (21% minority); Avg. acceptance rate into private schools is about 94% (source: privateschoolreview.com)
    - This creates an imbalance in educational inequality
    - Cultural division in the school setting permeates into the local community. This has been a continual cycle for decades.

    Pros

Good home town people for faculty.

    Cons

Administration is crazy. The County school system is in the bottom when it comes to management. The County makes it very difficult to allow students to travel overseas for an educational experience. Too much testing, but that is the Georgia Public School System. Salary is very low when in comparison the time and work expected out of each teacher and coach.

    Pros

    Very progressive, open to change

    Cons

Too much extra work, change in leadership too often

    Advice to Management

As a former teacher, administration should realize the importance of giving elementary teachers daily breaks. Those classroom teachers sometimes work 8 hours without a 15 minute break.
