      Pros

Big 5 was the perfect job while I was attending college. Nice staff, always accommodated my schedule. Always treated me right when I was working.

      Cons

Nothing bad to say about Big 5

      Easy operating system, flexible schedule

      Pros

The cash register is one of the easiest systems I ever worked with, and I recommend it for anyone who is new to being a cashier. The employee discount is generous, and the staff, and management are very nice, and accommodating when it comes to working around a second job schedule. Thankfully the schedules are week to week as opposed to being planned two weeks in advance.

      Cons

Don’t take this job if you never played a lot of sports, and aren’t very knowledgeable about sports because customers can be very entitled and assume you know a lot about sports accessories, camping. It’s not always easy to fake that you know than you actually do. No raise unless you go into management or there’s a city ordinance that demands a wage increase.

      Pros

The manager is super accommodating with class schedules, people usually get the hours they want, and the work is reasonable/not hard.

      Cons

It can be a bit hard asking for time off.

Good for a first job, but not long term

      Pros

Big 5 Sporting Goods is able to adapt to your lifestyle and give you the flexibility that you need; whether its another job, school, religious activities, etc. You typically are able to get the days you request off, as long as its at least two weeks in advance. The 24 hours of paid sick leave is also a plus.

      Cons

They pay you minimum wage as a part-time worker, but you're basically doing full time work and occasionally getting full time hours. The customers are pretty hit or miss, sometimes you get the sweetest people you could ever meet, and other times you get customers that are completely rude who also treat you with zero respect. There is a ton of drama amongst workers, and you encounter two different types of employees; the one who actually does their job (but hates it), and the one who does half the stuff they're supposed to do (and still hates it).

Enjoyable but can be tedious work at times

      Pros

Many of the other employees can be good friends, along with the managers

      Cons

It is retail so it can be repetitive and with Big 5's mask requirement, you will be yelled at by some customers depending on the location (ask about this in the interview because some locations don't have this issue)
