I have been working at Big Blue Swim School for more than a year

    Pros

I would definitely say I am very proud to be part of such an amazing growing company. I started more then 2 years ago as just a swim instructor and have slowly worked my way up. Come in with positivity and an open mind and heart and you too will grow to love what you do. How will you know? By how you end your day after every days work feeling accomplished knowing you have changed someone’s life for the better.... If you love kids, like to be a kid, play like a kid and most of all LOVE TO PLAY IN THE POOL, then this is right in your ally. If you just want to have fun at work and let loose, this is definitely something you want to consider. Working for this company you will learn how to gain strength from your weaknesses and will get aid in perfecting your strengths. It will definitely test your patience and teach you how to appreciate the smaller things in life. The goal of managers will always be towards helping you succeed in whatever position you are puts in. All in all being an instructor is THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB, that is also why there will only be full time positions, and they have great Benefits. If you are a student, times and days are very flexible and compliant to school schedules. You will gain lifeguard certification and CPO if you get into deck supervision. At the end of every month there is a team building outing that is out in place for each individual location to promote better team work during work hours. In addition there are employees bimonthly meetings which are used as training for all instructors to go over steps and help find different ways to achieve the same goal during classes. On top of that we discussed concerns and comments that the team may have and that can be used to better run the classes or schedule. Every other 3 months you get a review and you are able to get a bonus of up to 500$ or a raise up to 1$. Every location recognized employees of the month and get a 100$ gift card. This is a fast growing company which also means that there is always many opportunities to grow within. HR team is awesome they are very attentive to all the questions or concerns you may have and make sure everyone understands procedures and company policies. Upper management is very down to earth and keeps it real.

    Cons

    - Because this started off as a small business, many changes are constantly happening but know that it’s only to make the company better and more successful. Roma was never built in one day! - as part of a full time instructor 25 hours of that must be in water. - afternoon shift is the longest from 3 pm - 9pm you get a small break. (Side note - that is something that could potentially change in the near... future, depending business flow) - your skin, hair, and eyes may get irritated do to pool exposure or being too much in the water. But management truly do the best to balance out your dry and wet shifts. - do to the nature of the job you will definitely get sick during flue season, maybe even loose your voice all in your first year but after that it won’t happen as much. - no paid holidays especially for week of Christmas going into New Years however you have the option to come to work and help with cleaning the facility keep in mind that is first come first served - know that this gets better as you work your way up as opportunities arises. Keep a positive outlook toward everything you do or is given to you.

    Cons

i use to work as an assistant manager at big blue and i loved every minute of it but when i had to leave for a family emergancy they said i could leave and come back and when i was ready to come back they pretty much kicked me to the curb without even a call back i even called to come back as an instructor and no call back but they are on indeed looking for people and i would have love to come back but they do not... care they only use you to sell trials and get people to sign up make them money and get replaced in less than a week they dont know how to talk to employees you just get put into an ultimatum and if you dont choose correctly they slowly get you out the door and make it seem like you didnt try at all they have no consideration for other people its just big blue or you go home terrible upper management who do not appreciate their employees i would say if you want good money and get treated like crap come to big blue swim school
