I have been working at Big Lots full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not bad pay but not much else. They do not give recognition and are consistently raising the bar. If you deliver then they raise it higher till you can't hit it...

    Cons

No work life balance and nothing you do is ever good enough. It's just a email beat down everyday even if you are meeting company goals.

    Advice to Management

Be more employe friendly and give more praise when they are succeeding.

I worked at Big Lots full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Store Discounts, some Benefits, potential bonuses each quarter.

    Cons

Awfully rude customers who are uneducated or treat you as if you were uneducated. Irrational productivity expectations for stocking.

    Advice to Management

Be hands on. Before making restrictions on your employees try doing the work yourself first to see if it is even possible. 1 minute per box can happen depending on the contents within, not all boxes are the same.

I have been working at Big Lots full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

We had some awesome customers at our store. 20% off was nice. Most of the employees were pretty great also.

    Cons

MANAGEMENT!!!!!!! District likes to hire new mangers and assistants at a ridiculous pay and these people have no idea whats going on. The new management talks to employees like they are the ones who are incompetent.

    Pros

20% discount, Friends and family discounts

    Cons

I was hired in as a Sales Associate they wanted to train me as a back-up cashier so they would not have to hire and schedule more cashiers then they wanted me to get carts from the lot but at the same time still do returns and zone. Then no one from furniture was brining in the grills and patio furniture so I was doing it and it wasn't even my job to do but some had to do it. And keep up the returns and zoning all at the same time. Not to mention filling in the pop machine because the customer service person who job it was did not want to do it. On top of all the other jobs that I had to do all in 5 hours.

    Advice to Management

don't train everyone for back-up cashier and pull everyone off the floor so the customers can fend for themselves. Explain to furniture that it is their job to bring in the merchandise outside not the sales associates job. Establish the same across the board store standards policy at all stores.

I worked at Big Lots part-time

    Pros

The work wasn't taxing on the body, only on days we received a truck. Unloading is hell.

    Cons

Inconsistent hours. Next to impossible to acquire full-time. Some weeks you may only have 4 hours.

    Pros

More varied in merchandise with furniture included.

    Cons

Lack of decisions per management based on ownership. Turnover, work life reality, products availability

    Advice to Management

Empty space doesn't bring in sales where in store decisions could help alleviate this, seen across all stores

I have been working at Big Lots part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It could be a fun place to work if all employees got along better, which they don't.

    Cons

Could have a better manager. Need someone that is a people person. Not so moody.

    Advice to Management

Corporate needs to check on their managers and talk to the employees about what needs to change to make it a better work environment.
