    Pros

    It can be an easy job if you want it to be and also having a good attitude about it.

    Cons

    Management is not on the same page as to how things should be done so you are left confused sometimes.

    Advice to Management

    Take into consideration everything an associate does for the store when reviewing them and do make them look stupid for small things i front of customers. Also have more communication between managers.

    20% discount and helpful knowledge to grow as a leader

    Cons

    I believe in the Bloomington minnesota store they under pay me for my duties I make 11.56 an hour as dts lead and my furniture manager makes 13.10 an hour I do 10 times more then him and I'm smarter and more knowledgeable with retail and when you try to talk to the higher ups about your problems they listen but don't take action

    Pros

    Flexible work schedule, generally management has been easy to work with. Some power of management without all the responsibilities.

    Cons

    can be a very stressful job when associates and yourself do not overlap working hours. hard to communicate with those you do not work with

    Employee Discount, Friendly staff, Not super busy. Access to unique products.

    Cons

    Store could be nicer, Older store, Managers can be too relaxed sometimes. Not challenging enough. Poor shift management.

    Advice to Management

    Maximize time availability for employees, even if their schedule does not match what the electronic schedule will provide. Offer more incentives for possible promotion opportunities. Ask corporate if they may upgrade a few of the systems, to create a more helpful shopping experience for the customer and nicer atmosphere for employees.

    Wonderful experience in a local environment. Staff is amazing.

    Hours are hard to get

    Keep doing what you're doing, but ask corporate for more hours for the employees.

    I worked at Big Lots part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    I started as a freight associate and within 6 months had relocated to an asst. manager position as I've had prior management experience. As a freight associate the job consisted of offloading trucks, stocking freight, ringing sales, customer service and planoguides. Great people to work with in a fun and friendly environment and if you were actually willing to work you would get extra hours from call outs. Otherwise, weekly hours ranged from 12-25 depending on the season. I had been offered a management position with another company and turned it down as I enjoyed working this job so much. I enjoy my current management position as well but that has different pros and cons.

    Cons

    Limited hours of course, being part-time and the only full-time positions were management.

    Advice to Management

    Implement 1 or 2 full time positions.

    Good benefits great customer base

    Cons

    They do not provide the resources you need to get the merchandise out to floor no hours no help it's like there setting you up for failure hostile environment and Human Resources won't even get back to you but the person who you had the incident with will

    Advice to Management

    Give hours and team members to get the job done there's people here that are loyal and want the store to succeed and care about our customers being able to shop all the merchandise we do take pride in this company.
