    Advice to Management

More people need to be promoted to corporate. Some not sure to make decisions good for stores.

I have been working at Big Lots full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

20% discount & 5 hrs. OT for full time

    Cons

Too much work expected from too few hrs. given to the store as a whole. And store managers who don't pull there weight!! Lower wages than most places but more work expected. Christmas season is the worst...no time off at all. Very hard to have a work family life!!

    Advice to Management

Act like you care about your employees and show some appreciation for them!!

I have been working at Big Lots part-time

    Pros

This part time position offers flexibility and allows you to choose your availability. It would be great for students or those who want to work around another job.

    Cons

The pay is not great. Although they do have basic training online at work for new hires, most changes or new rules are not shared by managers directly to employees and may or may not get passed down by other employees. Understaffed many times.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job communicating with your employees about changes. Be more selective in the type of people hired that want to do a good job and are not going to quit 2 weeks after hiring. Pay better raises to those who are good employees.

I have been working at Big Lots full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Actively engaged in an environment totally focussed on customer service. Salary is very competitive with the industry. Associate discount is very good.

    Cons

Work life balance is not very good. Very little full time support. Stock team is drowning in most stores 10 out of 12 months of the year.

    Advice to Management

Addition of at least 1 more full time position would be a tremendous relief to management and part time employees. Focus on less projects concentrated in the same fiscal periods and spread them out more to be completed within the same fiscal quarters.
