I worked at Big West Oil as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Small company allowed me to work on projects in many different parts of the organization. Big West is willing to give opportunities to younger students who may not be considered by some other companies. The people here are happy, helpful, and fun to work with.

    Cons

Intern pay is lower than other companies (there are understandable reasons for this). Low potential for internship to translate to full-time employment (not much turnover in Process Engineer positions).

    Advice to Management

Continue to give opportunities to young students, it makes an enormous difference to their education and career.

I worked at Big West Oil (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company culture great and safety is a huge priority. They spend a lot of time training you to keep you safe.

    Cons

Big West Oil is a refinery which means you are working outside a lot in the elements. There are hot days and cold days and you have to be prepared for that.

I have been working at Big West Oil full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and I really like the 4 on 4 off 12 hours shifts. The type of work is easy and some good guys to work with.

    Cons

The pay scale has dropped over the past couple of years. When the production has gone up and more has been expected of the employees.

    Advice to Management

Care a little bit more about the guys that work for you. Don't have the attitude of a dime a dozen just drop a guy and find another.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Lot of intelligent people to learn from. Big dreams and ambitions.

    Cons

Currently going through bankruptcy. Good ol' boy mentality. No women in managment positions.

    Advice to Management

Pay and promote based on merit and accomplishment, not future expectations.
