I have been working at Billabong full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers that do their best to help each other out. One beach day a year

    Cons

Layoffs have caused everyone to do multiple jobs. There is a complete lack of communication. Work is done multiple times because decisions are never made. Upper management is afraid to make a decision so no one does until it is passed deadline. No organization

    Advice to Management

Get your s... together. Start promoting within and appreciate your employees for the astronomical amount of work they do

    I worked at Billabong full-time

    Pros

the culture and people are great! beach days and monthly activities are a great bonus

    Cons

Poor management, worked in a department with the highest turnover, management is quick to throw staff under the bus. never have I dealt with a manager so rude and condescending, micro managing what co-workers do on their free time. . ridiculous

    Advice to Management

be professional at work and leave your problems at the door, this is your team, not a group of mindless robots, treat them like humanely.

    I worked at Billabong full-time

    Pros

Good hours, work life balance, clean and safe work environment, decent benefits. Employees care about the products and general well being of eachother. Occasional fun days (beach day, food truck, etc). Also free coffee.

    Cons

One of Billabong's goal as a company is to become one of the "Top Places to Work" in Orange County. Well, if they want to get there they have a very long way to go. I experienced and witnessed blatant sexism, ageism, racism, and of course nepotism. The management is either too inexperienced and immature or they are "industry outsiders" and treat the work environment as if it's super corporate. There's just no balance. The immature managers conspire against the employees who do a good job because they think it makes them look bad. The corporate managers treat creatives like bankers and knock them down when they don't understand monetary parts of the business.

There are illegal practices going on as well. Men are paid higher than women doing the same job (there are laws against this now) and they make you use vacation days or unpaid leave when you are sick (even if you have sick days available). If you are older than 35 you will be passed up for promotions, laid off or fired, and replaced with a 20-something.

Upper management has a very political feel as well. Employees try to become friends with C-level staff in prefer to "save themselves" and this mentality trickles down. There is a very "every man for themselves" backstabbing culture at Billabong.

    Advice to Management

I am sad to write this review because Billabong was not built on the values and culture that the company currently operates on. I would advise management to thoroughly review the management team by asking lower levels employees their opinions. Also, learn how to retain your top talent inside of getting rid of them so you can look better and save money. Lastly, learn the laws in California and pay women equally to the men doing the same job.

I worked at Billabong full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It used to be a great environment to work at. It used to be very laid back.

    Cons

It is a low paid job and over workload. Management is poorly handling any situations. They hired too many executives which make it top heavy and not enough mid and entry level to actually work. They have been losing the core of the brand. The executives only care of the number and how much profits they can earn.

    Advice to Management

They need to care of the mid and entry level of people. Before you can get profit, you need to bring back the core of this brand and what the customers want. Then you will get your profit back after win your employees back. Without the core and the soul of this brand, the company doesn't mean anything for the customers.
