I have been working at Bimbo Bakeries (More than 10 years)

    Pros

At the end of the day, people will always need bread. The largest bakery in the world. Hard to see that it would go belly up in the foreseeable future.

    Cons

The right hand doesn't know or trust what the left hand is doing. They try to reinvent the wheel when their competitors are happy to stand on the shoulders of greater men. Keep it simple stupid.

Therefore advancement from within is difficult. Low-level and intermediate management mostly to almost exclusively comes from outside of the company.

    Advice to Management

Trust the boots on the ground. Eliminate the layers of middle management that are there to justify their own existence.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

You earn every cent you make. Turns out to be a pretty good paycheck . You will probably save money because you will be too tired to spend it.

    Cons

You work very hard, long hours, dealing with managers objectives and those objectives you are expected to complete but are shot down by your accounts.

    Advice to Management

We all take orders but let's be realistic on expectations you pass on. Remember where you came from

    Pros

Union benefits. Away from office and work independently most of the day. Don't punch a clock.

    Cons

Some of lower management just phone it in and give little support. Favoritism is common. Being union everything is seniority based (routes, vacations, support).

    Pros

Decent Pay and benefits, Good hours

    Cons

At the local and district level management is kind of a joke, most have no real qualifications for the position they are in, and hold onto it desperately.

Job Security is always in question.

    Advice to Management

Training to learn to talk and LISTEN to your employees

I have been working at Bimbo Bakeries full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It pays good, and good benefits.

    Cons

Instead of buying a brand that we are already distributing, a brand that has a 30% growth rate, it's decided that we push this artesano crap Sara Lee bread into the market without ZERO marketing.... ZEROOO!!! One, it's a 3 day code. Seriously!? What works in one market, doesn't always work in other markets! At least code it as Grandma Sycamore is coded. Or, push the 3 day code once the item gains sales and recognition as an every meal bread.

Now with Bimbo not buying DKB, they let another competitor into our market whom will eventually launch the rest of their breads into the market. Shouldn't a company strive to keep competition OUT!?

So, instead of buying an already established, popular, low stale, high volume item...they let a competitor come into our market, have us push a bread NO ONE knows about that's gotta be at a 90% stale rate it's first week, basically completely wasting money that could have bought DKB. Think about the man power it takes to make all the artesano crap. From the bakers, transporters, to the rsr's just to pick all back up in 3 days. Back from the rsr's, to the transporters, to the bakery outlets. Yeah, that's smart. Great business model there! Sell in 60 loaves, pick up 55. And don't you dare touch the orders! What a waste of time, energy, and most of all....money! Time, energy, and money that should have been spent buying DKB!

    Advice to Management

Show some recognition. A simple thank you, or good job goes a long ways and boosts moral. Isn't this simple fact taught before becoming a manager?

Have some incentives. Sales will increase, period.

Ease new items into the market unless the new items have been marketed throughout the territory. Don't force feed or blitz a market that hasn't been marketed. 40 loaves of artesano into a store with that averages 40% stale!? Oh, and don't touch those orders!!! C'mon man!

And of course, buy brands such as DKB. 30% growth rate and you can't shell out the bucks!? Laughable.
